Considering his physique, I'm guessing that these workouts are par for the course for him. Getting stronger and quicker isn't enough to make his career. We will have to wait and see on the skills.

I honestly think that a lot of the concerns about Jaylen Brown are premature at this point.  Reason being that I actually see an almost uncanny number of parallels between Brown and Andrew Wiggins:

1: Physical
At the Hoops Summit (the most recent pre-draft camp where both players got measured) Brown measured at 6' 6.5" with a 7' 0.5" wingspan, and Wiggins measured at 6' 7" with a 7' 0" wingspan.

Both players were praised for their elite athleticism - in fact both were labelled as the top athlete in their respective draft class.

Both were very young (Wiggins 18, Brown 19).

Wiggins is no doubt a little bit more impressive as a run/jump athlete then Brown is, but then Brown is almost 25 pounds heavier, and he's probably twice as strong because that extra weight seems to be all muscle.

So physically, they are pretty much on par overall.

2. Stats
Wiggins' Per 40 Minute Freshman stats:
20.8 Pts
7.1 Reb
1.9 Ast
1.4 Stl
1.2 Blk
2.8 TO
3.3 PF
44.8% FG
34.1% 3PT
77.5% FT
53.8% FTR

Brown's Per 40 Minute Freshman stats:
21.2 Pts
7.8 Reb
2.9 Ast
1.2 Stl
0.9 Blk
4.5 TO
4.6 PF
43.1% FG
29.4% 3PT
65.4% FT
57.4% FTR

Those are VERY similar stat lines right there, overall.

3: Skill Set
Both guys were known as athletic freaks who loved to drive to the basket and loved to finish above the rim.

Both were questioned for their lack outside shooting, limited ball handling skills, questionable court feel, questionable decision making.

Both were seen as good rebounders with high defensive upside.

Wiggins' game wasn't quite as raw as Brown's in college - this can be seen in his better shooting percentages, lower turnover numbers, lower foul numbers, etc. Still a lot of similarities.

4: Intangibles
Wiggins was always questioned for his lack of motor, swagger and general aggressiveness on the court - many people questioned whether he had leadership ability, and whether he had that "Alpha dog" personality (much like people wonder with Simmons today).

I don't think anybody has to worry about those things with Brown, because swagger, motor and toughness are things he has almost too much of.

So before people get too concerned about Jaylen's limitations and his raw nature, I suggest having a look at Andrew Wiggins.  He was a very raw athletic swingman who many people felt would take at least 2 years of development before he would actually be able to produce at a high level.  Yet he exploded on to the NBA scene, took the ROY award, and averaged 18+ PPG over his first two seasons.

He had a pretty weak summer league showing too - worse then Brown's, from memory.

Just goes to show, you really don't know what to expect!

Crimson_stallion:  TP for the stat work you did.  However, I don't think those numbers are as similar as you.

In the world of elite sports it's often a few % points that differentiate good from great, or good from average.  In the case of Jaylen vs Wiggins, there's a sizable difference in Turnovers, FT%, 3PT%, etc... and the difference favors Wiggins each time.  How much work would Jaylen have to put in to improve his FT% by 12%?  Quite a bit.  And with 3PT% shooting sometimes it takes a complete overhaul of a player's shooting mechanic to get to the next level.

There's only two physical things that I like about Jaylen over Wiggins - that he's stronger/bigger and that he seems to attack the rim more often.

nice article SI ,out on butlers trainer and what they do off season-mind blowing, what the star
athletes do to be and to stay the best
jaylen is brought up multiple times-working on footwork-this guy turned butler into all star
the amount jaylen has put in since summer league will dwarf his whole collegiate year-being taught moves and countermoves

You think Jaylen will put up similar stats to Wiggins next year?
