For those of you who would be disappointed, would you feel better if it resulted in us landing Durant next offseason? Particularly if we also won the lottery next year?
But how would it accomplish either of those things?

I mean no one (that Ive seen) is suggesting giving up the 2017 pick, and everyone has pretty much made it clear that maintaining cap space for KD this year and next is key.

I'm just trying to keep us all positive. Even if this offseason does not seem like fireworks, and I think there's a 50-50 chance of that happening, we still have a shot at Durant and the lottery next year.

Plus, who knows, Bender could become the next Dirk. Poeltl could become a respectable center who averages a double-double. Ordinarily, we would be thrilled to score two lottery picks, particularly two Euro bigs with loads of potential.

Not sure anyone could have a worse summer than no trades, no signings and wasting the 3 on the Euromistake.

Total EF5 wipeout.

Agreed.

I like Poeltl, but 16,23,31,35 is wayyyyy too much for him in a deep draft. There will be good prospects available at all those spots.

We only have so many roster slots, though. We don't have room for 5 rookies. Why not grab the surest thing in the draft?

Let's say we are unable to pull off a trade for an all-star and we are unable to woo Durant and Howard. In an attempt to repursue Durant and another all-star next offseason, we stick to minor adjustments saving significant cap space in the process since we have calculated next offseason will see many fewer teams with significant cap space, which will limit competition for max players. How would you feel about the following moves:

3. Bender
11. Poeltl (In exchange for 16, 23, 31, 35)
45. Draft-and-stash
51. Draft-and-stash
58. Draft-and-stash

Take the option on Johnson and Jerebko. Re-sign Turner to a 3-year team discount. Qualifying offer on Zeller.

1. Thomas/Smart/Rozier
2. Bradley/Smart/Hunter
3. Crowder/Turner/Young
4. Johnson/Jerebko/Bender/Mickey
5. Olynyk/Poeltl/Zeller

Additions: Bender and Poeltl
Subtractions: Sullinger and Holland

If we ended up with that draft I'd be ecstatic!! That combination of Bender and Peoltl would be very potent offensively and defensively. We could end up with our set of Twin Towers. I think Peoltl would most likely start over any of our C that we have. Send a combination of players for Thad Young to help us get better. We get the Nets worse and us better. Improve our pick which will be amazing next year because of how fantastic the 2017 draft will be. Stars will liter that draft. Personally I'm looking to add  Tatum, Ntilikina, Giles, there are literally so many options in the top 8 that we are in a fantastic position. Honestly we should try and trade out of this draft as much as possible to add picks next year. Whenever you have such a talented top half of the draft talented players are bound to fall.

Deep draft? This is considered one of the weakest drafts in recent years

That is incorrect.  It is considered weak on top in terms of franchise talent, but very deep in terms of potential rotation players.  Teams want both.

If the Celtics don't make any relevant moves this offseason, they are likely going to be stuck in playoff purgatory (a better version of the Jennings Bucks or Iguodala 76ers) unless the Nets end up gifting them a franchise player.

When did rosters expand to 16 players?

This would be a missed opportunity. I would rather trade picks for future picks than overpay for Poeltl.

I will be OK if the team isn't set up to take a major leap forward, if that means the team has recognized the necessity of taking a step back to develop recently drafted players in order to take a step forward long term.

If the team is just sticking with the status quo and punting on picking a direction for another year, that is not OK with me.

Same, TP.

Because you can do better things with those picks. 1. Trade up but don't get fleeced 2. Trade for established rotation players 3. Trade out for future picks 4. Draft and stash.

It all depends on what happens with #3. If Danny picks to keep the player I feel we are gonna take a step back to develop this guy. If he trades #3 for a seasoned vet then we are going for it all now.
