we got some 2nd rounders with good value, this years philly pick for example.
Its basically a late first rounder without the guaranteed contract.

You can find a diamond if you look hard. Ginoboli Draymond, Jimmy Butler was a 30th. Crowder was second round pick. We don't need all our picks so we do need to group them into a deal. Or trade them for future picks at least.
The only problem is, that for every Jimmy Butler you will have 10 Fab Melos.

I think our team is good, but we need one or two superstars to make the team great, but if we get that we will be really great as I see it, as we have really good roleplayers, as I mentioned earlier.

I don't think there's a lot of value in the second rounders, particularly since we have so many.  at this point, they're basically throw-ins with the more valuable assets.

having said that, I think Danny is probably better than the other GMs in finding that rare gem in the second round that can actually play in the league.  give him 4-5 shots at it in this coming draft and I suspect he'll come away with at least a couple of guys that may stick with the roster (assuming the majority aren't used on draft=and-stash players)

we don't really NEED to but if we could combine some lower ones into higher ones or use them to improve our first rounders, I'm all for it.  Danny's track record with picking guys in the second round is incredible so if he has 4-5 at his disposal, I really think he has an excellent shot at getting 2-3 that will be quality NBA players.  If he uses some for draft-and-stash, that's fine too.

The big drawback is that with the volume of picks he has in this year's draft and only a handful of roster spots open at the end of the season, if he doesn't trade some of these picks, they'll have been for naught.  IIRC, only Lee and Turner are expiring this year and Amir and Jerebko have team options for next year.  Barring any trades, we're pretty well locked into 3 firsts and the seconds from Philly and Minny figure to be pretty high in the second.  that's 4 spots for 5 prospects not to mention the other second rounders that will be selected.  I can only hope Danny can trade/condense those picks to get the most value from them

I have a question for anyone able to answer it:

If the Celtics are unable to unload most of those 2nd-round picks coming up, and assuming there isn't enough space on the roster for them, then what?

Could the Celtics draft whomever and just refuse to sign them, thereby retaining their draft rights while those players play in some other league? I think that's the case, but I'm not sure. If this is in fact how it works, then how many years go by before the player becomes a free agent and can sign anywhere? Or do the Celtics own that player's rights indefinitely?

If that's the case, then the worst case scenario is that over the next couple of years you amass a collection of young guys toiling away in Europe/D-League/China/Australia/wherever, and you get first dibs on whichever one blossoms into a bonafide NBA talent. But maybe I'm missing something.

Second rounders are often drafted and stashed in overseas leagues.  The player has to agree to do this or already be under contract with some non-NBA team.  Draft and stashers rights are retained for 1 year after the end of their non-NBA contract.  If the player doesn't agree to be a draft and stash, their rights are retained until the next draft but usually those players just aren't drafted.  Another option is to trade some of this years picks for future draft picks.
