Knowing the Lakers they'll probably end up waving him to resign Boozer or another bozo like that. And the substantial partial he got will allow him to sign with Maine or straight with us if by that time we have roster spots available.

That said, Holmes over Jerebko?! Come on... Leaving contract questions aside (Jerebko's unguaranteed second year is great trade wise...), JJ has a good chance (now that we're not raising his value for him to leave in free agency) to get more minutes than Olynyk or even Sullinger. As it stands now, Holmes wouldn't make the roster.

Ah darn it.

I'm really happy he's getting a chance on an NBA team, but man, the Lakers is probably the last team I'd like for him to sign.

This sucks and this is great for me at the same time. I've been a fan of his, but now I will have to root against that jersey he's going to wear.

Happy for JH.  Sad it wasn't us who can give him a shot.

My question is, will there ever be a chance he'll start over Randle? Fit wise, it makes total sense.

This sums up the bitter/sweet nature of Holmes signing for the Lakers. Want Holmes to do well but you hope he doesn't do it against the C's for the Lakers. You can only hang on to so many players. Sometimes you will let one go who turns out better than you expected and you wish you had your decision back. I don't think that will be the case here.

Would have rather had him than Jerekbo...

Yeah I was thinking the same......bet DA would too.....if he'd had a nice offer for him.

Depressing
I bet he doesn't. Jerebko is already a good NBA player. Holmes would have been the forth rookie on our roster. I would have liked him as a 15 man on the roster, but let's not over state how good the guy actually is just because he had a few solid games in summer league.

I like Holmes, happy for him. I don't care if he plays for them either, they are no threat for anything important. I will always hate them but I just don't care enough about them until their team is good. If he blows up and is really good, I hope he dumps them for another team b/c they are going to stink for years!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

You know, Danny really did not have to get Amir, Lee or Jerebko.

Our team would of been just fine with KO, Sully, Zeller, Mickey and Holmes going into next season.   Cheaper also

Amir , Lee, Jerebko while good players are not going to take this team to the next level . These are the type of players you add for a championship run.

We most certainly would not have been fine with those 5 as our bigs. Who's playing D in that group besides Mickey, who's a rookie. Holmes is an undrafted rookie. I really, really like Mickey and I think he's gonna be a good player, but We're trying to win as many games as possible this season. Giving significant minutes to a rookie 2nd round pick and a rookie who went undrafted is not a good way to do that.

Also, I don't think you can lump every non-star over 26 into "the types of guys you add for a championship run". It amazes me how many people really under-estimate the Amir Johnson signing. Sure, he's not a star, but he's exactly what this team needs in a whole lot of ways.

Johnson is a very high character guy who does all the little things right. He's been in the league for 10 years, and is the perfect veteran leader for our young squad. He gives us good interior defense and rebounding, which we sorely lacked last year and I believe he's gonna have a major impact. There's been a lot of FO's types who have said it's one of the summer's most under-rated signings, and I think the fact we got him to take the 2nd year non-guaranteed is just icing on the cake.

I think 50 wins is within the realm of realistic possibility with this team, and I didn't think that before the Johnson signing. He could help more than most realize. Way more than Holmes.

Over the past couple years it seems that if a player is a favorite of mine, chances are Danny will either trade him or not resign/sign him.  My record has been rather remarkable in this regards.

These players included Courtney Lee, Kris Humphries, Marcus Thornton (#1), Tayshaun Prince, Brandon Bass and now Jonathan Holmes.
Who knows if Holmes will turn out to be an NBA player.  Still, I liked him over most of this year's picks...with maybe the exception of Mickey(?). I also liked Bass over Jeremko, Olynyk or Sully.

My favorites going into this year are Zeller and Turner.  If history repeats itself, then either Zeller or Turner won't be here next year...maybe both.  On the other hand my favorite player(s) could change during the year and someone else might be sent on his way.

No need to comment on why Danny didn't keep these players.  It's been discussed before.  Some of the arguments were pretty good.  Sometimes it's just frustrating being a fan.

Those are the worst favorite players ever.

I'd rather give Holmes $300k (or whatever a significant partial guarantee is) to attend camp than give $25k to Malcolm Miller, who has zero shot.

Miller was given money to let himself be assigned to Maine.  Signing him didn't block the Celtics from offering a partial guarantee to Holmes.

A significant partial guarantee is one large enough that teams that don't understand what a sunk cost is end up keeping a player even if he looks like he doesn't belong on a NBA roster.

Rats. I'll go on record as saying I think the Cs made a big mistake in not making room for this guy. Sad to see him sign elsewhere.

i can see why you like holmes, but may i ask which of the celtics players do you think ainge should axe to make room for holmes? they already have more than 15 guaranteed contracts and holmes would be fighting for what, 12th to 15th man on the team.

This, plus the guy who said JJ would have dominated Summer League.

We have a similar taste in players.

What a mistake.

Holmes will be a better player than Jerbeko, Olynyk or Jones.

Not hard to fathom he will be a better player than PJIII but definitely not Jerebko or Olynyk. Holmes will need to earn playing time in the Lakers lineup first.
