Does it mean they have until the end of FA to do it (after signing Crowder we won't have cap space anymore) ?
Pretty much. More dependent on roster space availability once rosters needs to be finalized than anything else.
Also, I'd imagine that this transaction will be attempted prior to signing Crowder, but at some point depending on how our cap space keeps diminishing it might end up being irrelevant.
The way I understand it and it's possible I am wrong is that...the Celtics haven't finalized the Lee deal or signed Crowder because they want to use the available cap money for another deal. If they finalize the aforementioned deals/signing first, it would not allow them to use this money for anything significant so they need to make a deal/signing first and then follow-up with the other two. I am just wondering how long can he wait for this. I mean theoretically another team could steal Lee away from Golden State with a better offer if we don't eventually finalize it.
I think we have a verbal agreement for the Lee trade. That's different from FA with the moratorium.
I hope you are right but how does that explain during an interview at summer league during the last game he said he couldn't comment on Lee. If it's a done deal (verbal) then why couldn't he comment? It sounds like anyone could withdraw until it is finalized.
While it's a done deal, it's not a done deal, if that makes sense. To be official, the league has to be informed and approve it. Until such time as that happens, Lee is a member of the Golden State Warriors, and Ainge isn't allowed to talk about players on other teams acquisitional manner. That said, the odds either side would back out, pending Lee or Wallace having relatively clean medical reports, is near zero, because there's no point in ruining a working relationship. Some of the Golden State ownership group used to be part of the Celtics group with Wyc, so there is a strong relationship. Golden State knows the trade will happen, and is planning accordingly. But they're being friendly and allowing the C's some more time to use cap room instead of demanding the deal go through now. This is similar (but not identical) to how Kevin Love had been traded for weeks last summer before it became official (the delay there was that Wiggins signed his rookie contract, and could not be traded for 30 days thereafter). Technically either side can back out, but barring a bad medical report, neither side will.
