Melo was drafted as a C replacement
he was more for need as the C's were using garnett at C which tired him too much cuz he had bang low more with bigger guys at his age and garnett prefered to play more PF
KO was drafted cuz he did so well offensively against other prospects in competition and hes refined offensive game and unique skill set
Also the C's were still in that 2 year period where they were deciding between retooling with rondo, if they were able to get love from minny they then would have been able to get another star
Drafting KO was probably a safe choice despite gobert, gorgui dieng and antetokounmpo still on the board. It would be easier for the C's to trade for love with a young player that is seen producing straight away rather than a player that is still raw and needs more time to develop.
