I think the good news is that if Ainge really loves one of these guys - or anyone outside what seems to be the top 4 of Okafor, Towns, Mudiay and Russell - we probably have the assets to trade up and get him.

E.g., a #10 and #20 for #6 type of swap seems feasible. We just need to find a team in the 5-8 range that likes someone who falls to 10.

Wow, he looks impressive.  Great shooting stroke. Like Galinari, but seems more athletic.

DX has moved him up to 6th, by the way.

First Stanley Johnson then Russell and now, seemingly, this kid. Every time I start to get excited about someone, our record gets better, or the kid moves up in the mocks to put him out of reach.

Yeah, a month or two ago I was telling myself to focus on Porzingis / WCS / Johnson / Winslow because one of those guys would almost certainly be available in the back half of the top 10 where the Celtics would likely pick.

Now?  I have a feeling I'm gonna have to talk myself into Montrezl Harrell, Devon Booker, or maybe Kevon Looney or Kelly Oubre.

So either yet another role player wing or a power forward.

In any case, this is looking more and more like a 4 or 5 player draft to me.  Bummer that the Celtics are probably going to end up outside of that.

it looks similar to me as well. but i think the next 4-5 players, while not as good, are still going to be good nba players.

assume the top tier of players is in no particular order is:
okafer
johnson
mudiay
towns
russell

that means we can assume the "second tier" of players contains:
WCS
porzingas
hezonja
obre
looney

of this group, i would be very happy for the celtics to pick any of WCS, hezonja, or porzingas. looney, IF he develops an outside shot would be great as well.

let's assume one more thing. if the celtics draft pick falls in the 8 to 10 range (reasonable) they certainly have the resources move up to #5 or #6.

i think the celtics will walk away with a very good player in this draft, it just may take a trade to do it.

@ByJayKing Ainge at Barcelona-Galatasaray Euroleague game right now. Mario Hezonja targeted for the draft.
H. has Kyle Korver written all over him, and I'm not sure that's what we need at this point in the draft.

The C's need shooters and a SF.

Hezonja will be the steal of this draft, still young but big and atheltic for a 2... Can shoot the ball from anywhere .. plus he has a chip on his shoulder.. I would take him as high as 3 in the draft..

No, the Celtics need players that can create offense -- not spot-up shooters who are can't play defense.

No way he goes 3 with russell, towns, mudlay there maybe 4th. If Johnson Turner or Winslow have a good NCAA he may go 7th.

If we made a promise to him later in the draft and he shutdown workouts and threatened to stay in Europe, we could end up with a good value.

That doesn't always work saric wanted to only be drafted by the Celtics and lakers and said he would only come out to the nba straight away if they drafted them

But 76ers trying to stockpile talent just went ahead and drafted him

That's not really accurate. Saric signed a deal to stay in Turkey for at least 2 years prior to the draft. He wasn't going anywhere regardless of who called his name.

Figures. Danny Ainge, embezzling money from the Celtics by taking a scouting vacation on Wyc's dime.

Lol

He looks to me like the real deal. He has the tools: quick, explosive, long. And he has the skills: passing, footwork, shooting, OK handles. Defensively he looks pretty [dang] good for a 19yo going against grown men. I don't think there's any reason to think he couldn't go top 3 - wonder if Ainge is thinking of trading up for him.

We NEVER draft Foreigners.  Especially NOT early.
This is totally a smokescreen and Ainge just doing due diligence.

I'd be happy if we could get a Stanley Johnson or Cauley-Stein out of this draft.
Home-grown guys who have the physicality and pro bodies to compete in the NBA game right away.
