I think what Ainge is doing here is he isnt looking to trade rondo like some are predicting here, its trade sullinger and 17.

If Sully can be the main piece in a love trade, he can darn sure be the main piece in a #8 pick trade.

I think the target at that point would be Gordon at 6 and Randle at 8.

Rondo
Bradley
Gordon
Randle
Olynyk

I LIKEY

That line-up is awful.

Glad you said it first. Terrible.

Was there an anti-Rondo troll recruiting effort while I was away for a couple of months? I am hoping we can get a bag of balls and a trainer's bag for Rondo>   ::) ::) ::)

Green and #17 for #8 and filler.

Isaiah Thomas can't be traded on Draft Night.

Considering Sacramento's desire for veterans that package would be my guess... The filler being an unwanted contract (or 2) from Sacramento.

Danny, earlier in the draft process, stated that the top tier in this draft consists of 8. I see him targeting a mix of Embiid/Smart/Gordon/Vonleh/Randle (in that order) depending on availability. I think he wants to keep Rondo to build around (ala Pierce) because he thinks Rajon will stay regardless of if a star is acquired this offseason or not.

Ainge will not sell low on Rondo or Sullinger and will sell high on Green.

Pretty sure he "liked" 6 players.   At least that's what Wyc said on a interview I think..
wonder if Danny sees that draft opportunity as Embiid at 6 and Gordon at 8.  that would be a pretty sweet pick up if Sac will take Green and 17

From your lips to God's ears.

Rondo and 17 would be ok too.

I know you don't like Rondo but good God. He can fetch a lot more than that. Why would we trade Rondo & 17 for #8? You don't like Rondo, cool. But these ridiculous trade ideas are getting silly. Why not get the most we can for him? Not this Rondo + 17 for #8 or Rondo for Gordon Hayward ideas you're talking about.

Nothing silly about it. Rondo isn't any good anymore, and he makes $10 million dollars a year.
If anybody wanted him, he would have been traded long ago.

There is so much wrong with this statement, I don't even know what to say.  Let's start with his current contract, he is on the books next year for 12.9mil, which most would probably tell you is a bargain deal for a 4 time all-star....if you can't even get the facts correct, why would any believe your hyperbole?

The Celtics lost the last six games Rondo played before his injury.
Rondo isn't any good any more.

Oh. My. God. Stop......

Anyway if they were both up for free agency right now, I know who I'd pick

They're not both available, however.  In considering what you're paying a player, you have to factor in the replacement cost if you let them walk away.  Who takes Bradley's place if we don't pay him 7 mil a year?  Marcus Smart?  What as-good FA are we going to sign for less than 7 mil a year?  What better FA 2 guard is going to sign in Boston coming off a lottery season?

If Avery leaves, you have to replace him and use assets to do so.  Is it worth paying him a million more than you think he "deserves" if that means you can pick Embiid or Gordon at 6 instead of Smart?  Or if you pick smart and don't have to rush him into the lineup?  Is it worth it to the team to have a 5 mil a year replacement that isn't as good a defender?

I object to this delusion that replacing Avery with an equal-or-better player on an equal-or-better contract would be a piece of cake.  I remember how many frickin' years Boston spent with  horrible point guards between DJ and Rondo.  It isn't always that easy to find NBA caliber starters.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that two factors play in to a trade with the Kings.

First, if we don't land Love I'm not sure that Danny rolls the dice on Rondo staying. But even more influential might be the #6 pick. I listened to the BS Report last night and Chad Ford seemed to think that Embiid was likely to slip to the C's (for a number of reasons). If we pick Embiid that means at least another rebuilding season, Ford says 2 minimum. I doubt Rondo wants to endure that and I doubt Danny would want Rondo on long-term rebuilding project.

The only reason I think we'd offer Rondo to SAC for #8 instead of LAL at #7 is because SAC can offer McLemore. #8 and McLemore for Rondo is pretty excellent value for 1 year of an all-star PG. Furthermore Rondo, Gay and Cousins might make the playoffs out west, especially if they can land Smith too.

Something like this: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ohqomwy
with #8 and DET 2015 2nd round going to SAC

The Pistons do it to wipe Josh Smith off of their books in 1 year. He is overpaid and was a bad signing by a GM trying to hit a homerun. It has the added bonus of allowing them to stink this year while netting a high draft pick in the touted 2015 draft class. Green will fit in nicely there a Terry expires this season.

The Kings do it because they can compete for the first time in a decade. Rondo, Gay, Smith and Cousins is a playoff team, assuming they don't kill each other. It also sounds like a really fun team to watch. I wouldn't make this move but then again I wouldn't have traded for Gay or thrown $ at Landry or Thompson.

We do it to go full rebuild. Let AB walk (or S&T for a 2nd rounder) and pray Steven's head doesn't explode. We probably net a top-5 pick next year and try to make a splash in the FA market (I know, unlikely).

If we get Thomas back in the deal, I would do it (assuming that Ainge doesn't work his magic and get the other 2 parts of a new "Big 3"...Love, Melo, Bron, Bosh, etc)

#8, McLemore, Thomas is a good value for Rondo.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Yeah seriously.  Considering we are trying to dump Wallace, we might have to trade the #6 to end up with the #8.  Yeah, no chance in hell.

I also like the all star center we're getting.  Whoever he may be.
