I realize I'm trying to talk myself into getting Embiid, but the payoff could be so huge.

If you buy a Powerball ticket, the payoff could be huge.  Are you buying one today?

Odds of winning Powerball is 1 in 175 million.  Odds of Embiid's foot healing is probably a little better than that.

We will probably end up doing neither...

If we take the Kevin Love path, I think we would make additional moves... probably target Melo and try to compete immediately.

If we take the Embiid path, I really think Rondo gets traded and we build around the youth.

Either way, I think I'll be happy with either of those results.  More likely we just pick someone else 6th and fail to trade for an impact star.

I get what you're saying and I feel like I'm agreeing with you by stating the opposite: that DA should probably do both, especially because his offer is standing pat.

If Minny is still playing hardball on draft day, and DA feels confident that Embiid would not be their target with the #6, why not wait out the beginning of the draft?

If Embiid is taken but Minny didn't want him, the pick is more valuable to them because someone who would have been gone is available. Minny would get the most value pre-draft, so try for a last minute deal. If Embiid is there, DA can take him or try to trade it: if Minny declines it doesn't really matter since #6, #17, KO & 1st seems to be our max offer.

I don't really trust DA to nail drafts, though he's a good drafter, but I do trust his ability to plan for and execute trades. We'll see what happens. It's going to be an exciting draft.
