I wonder whether they'd rather have Green or our trade exception.

If they're trying to clear salary for Melo, our trade exception.  Otherwise Green, no question.  They didn't want Green this year to clear room for Melo.  But by early July, Melo's decision will be clear.
If they're trying to clear salary for Melo, I'd much rather take Chandler Parsons than Asik.

Dumping Parsons doesn't clear much salary.  And if their contracts were the same, I'd take Asik over Parsons.
No, but Carmelo makes him redundant. Although, of course, Parsons may end up being a Jeff Green carbon copy when all is said and done.

There is a reasonable probability that if they can bring in Carmelo Anthony, they play him as a PF and keep Parsons as the SF.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with crimson_stallion that trading our best offensive weapon in order to get Asik isn't necessarily a net overall positive move (depending, of course, on other possible transactions).

I'm pretty sure there were posters in this forum who thought you could replace Jeff Green with Chris Johnson and lose nothing.  I wonder what they would think about jettisoning Green and starting CJ, backed up by the best available rookie SF who is not Wiggins or Parker.

The only time I'm trading Green is if Wiggins or Parker are on this team.

Now that Asik is getting starter's minutes, I wonder if he will stop demanding a trade. Seems like playing him and Howard together can work, especially against bigger line-ups.  Asik is a better on ball defender than Howard against guys like Aldridge.

now that Houston is gone fishing, I wonder if Morey is willing to attach some picks to Asik+Lin's combined 30M salary for the 2014-2015 season in order to make room for Carmelo.

Pierce's TPE for Lin + HOU 2014 first round pick

Bogans+Joel Anthony for Asik+ NYK 2014 second rounder (owned by HOU)

Both Lin and Asik are nice players, but giving up assets for them AND taking care of their overblown (on and off the cap) salaries would be highway robbery for Morey.

By the way, Green is a much better player than Asik, even if Omer is one of the best P&R defenders in the League.

Collecting assets for the 2015 fireworks is the way to go.
