If Bosh leaves this summer, does Miami retire his number?  I mean there isn't much difference between KG in Boston and Bosh in Miami in that situation (you know except more titles in Miami in less years).

If Miami had a long history of retiring the numbers of role players and contributors to championships, absolutely.
Miami hasn't been around long enough or with enough success to have that sort of history established.  I mean I can't see James not having his number retired since he is their best player and obviously Wade will get his retired, but Bosh is an interesting case for me if he leaves this summer.  I just don't see him as being worthy (now if he plays another 3+ years for Miami, then absolutely).  I mean this is a franchise that has retired Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning, and Michael Jordan's numbers (Dan Marino's is also in the rafters, but is not retired).  Because the franchise is relatively young a guy like Udonis Haslem is in the top 2 or 3 of a number of categories, but I can't imagine he would have his number retired as he has never been more than a quality rotation player even with the 3 titles (though if he was a Celtic he probably would because Boston retires everyone's number).

See, I actually think that Haslem has a pretty good chance of getting his number retired with the Heat.

All-Time Team Rebounding leader (only undrafted player to ever do that), starting PF on their 2006 championship team, he's been co-captain with Wade since 2006(?)... I think that, as far as organizational importance goes, he's right up there with 'Zo and Tim Hardaway.
He may, but I think it would only be because of longevity and that is how you get into trouble with those things.  He was the starting PF in 06, but he was also like the 5th best player on that team.

I don't think he has ever even led the Heat in rebounding (he didn't the first few I know and he hasn't since the Big 3 maybe a season or two in the middle).

You say it's getting into trouble with these things, I think it only makes sense. Look at his captainship--he got picked over LeBron in 2010, because being a captain, kind of like having your jersey retired, isn't some kind of statistical reward.

It's been brought up a few times, but there's no mathematical threshold to getting your number retired. And that's a good thing. I don't watch games by a box score, and Haslem should have his number retired by the Heat.

Pretty well said.

In terms of the big picture history of the Miami Heat, Haslem is probably a guy deserving of recognition in the their rafters.  As mentioned before, his impact with the Heat went beyond the numbers and he certainly has a heavy history in that organization.

Bosh is their Ray, not their KG.

Not to mention that no one here seems to have a firm grip on what Miami's considerations are for retiring numbers while the Celtics philosophy has been abundantly apparent for decades.

Miami retired Jordan's number when he never played for them...they're gonna retire Chalmer's jersey or maybe even Kobe's jersey at one point

Right.

Fun fact: Tim Hardaway, great player and one of the only guys to have his number retired by the Heat, is the owner of the worst shooting performance in NBA history--he went 0-17 against the Timberwolves when he was on the Dubs. They still won, by the way, and Hardaway finished with 13 assists.
