Ok I was reading the articles coming out about our top coaching possibilities. I've heard Scott, Shaw, Frank and even the dreaded Fizdale rumor. I like Scott but I wouldn't want to give him more than $2m/yr, he'd want 4. Shaw has the credibility but all his interviews are not panning out.

So here is a thought, let KG coach the rebuild. Here are a few reasons why:

He already has a great relationship with Rondo
He can probably be had for $2M/year or less (ref. JKidd)
He's got a defensive mind which is in demand in today's NBA

I really think he'd be a good candidate. Maybe we could trade him as an "expiring" (read: retiring) to get assets and pick him up as our coach in the preseason. Who knows how legal that is but it's a though.

I really hope KG stays in the Celtics organization. I read a rumor he might go play adviser for the TWolves in a year. I'd like to have him here. He's my all-time favorite player so maybe I'm biased :)

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
As a player-coach, you mean?
I like Marcus Smart

That isn't what I was suggesting but I'm not against the idea. I think maybe the game is more complex than it was back when player-coaches were more common. The last one I can remember was Dave Cowens. I'd rather have KG bring in Lawerence Frank and just coach. Ideally I'd like to trade KG as an expiring, have him retire, hire him as a coach in the preseason and then use our cap space after moving PP.

That is what I'd hope for

Player coaches are not allowed under the current CBA.

Even if Pierce/KG both retire we won't have much cap space. And no one is going to trade for KG if he's going to retire.

I don't think Garnett is interested in coaching. He doesn't even sit on the bench when he doesn't suit up, remember?

I don't see why not. He's an expiring $11M expiring. That has value in the NBA doesn't it? Retiring players come off the cap don't they?

Not only that but he disappears from the game during the off season. he's made more money than just about any player ever in the NBA and isn't crazy about being around the game if he isn't playing it.

Gotta agree with koz here. I don't see KG wanting to coach after retiring from playing.

Rondo, on the other hand, he was born to coach, or be a GM.

I don't think he'll coach the Celtics
Cause he and Pierce might be traded on draft night
