I certainly hope so. You don't dump Doc, KG, and PP if you aren't committed to a full rebuild. Trying to build a championship team around an extremely talented PG with big glaring flaws in his game, is fools gold. He isn't capable of being the centerpiece of the team if you want to hang a banner. Sure he could get you to the playoffs with the right 3-4 other pieces, but if he's the best player on your team you don't win it all.

On the other hand, you don't give the guy away either. He has a very cap friendly contract for his ability and even though he is hurt I am sure there would be some serious interest out there. I would be looking either for a legitimate all star 2-3, or some upside players with a couple of likely lower lottery picks. If not, he's better on the roster.

If Tony Parker is the best player on your team, you probably aren't winning it all, either, right?

Tony Parker was never the best player on his team.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

He is this year.

That's debatable.  Duncan was 1st team All-NBA this year and Parker wasn't.  Duncan was 2nd team All-Defense this year and Parker wasn't.

Parker was 6th in MVP voting, Duncan was 7th.

Parker (Regular season) - 20/3/8 (Postseason) - 21/3/7
Duncan (Regular season) - 18/10/3 (Postseason) - 17/10/2

Personally, I'd take the big man who protects the basket with the similar stats.  I guess a case can be made both ways.  I'd say Parker makes a slightly bigger impact on the team's offense while Duncan makes a much bigger impact on the team's defense.

Fair enough.  It's kind of like Rondo/KG in 2012.

Rondo was our best player in 2010 when we got to game 7 of the finals. If he'd been a little healthier we'd have probably won it all. He led the team past the best team in the league when that team had the best player in the league.

I'm having this nagging suspicion about Rondo ... that maybe all is not as rosy with his recovery.

This is totally unfounded - but if he is more seriously hurt - or his recovery schedule looks long, that could go a long way to explain a lot of the craziness that has gone on the last couple of weeks.

Any thoughts of a 'run it back' all were predicated on a healthy Rondo (as well as a healthy Sully).

With no Rondo available for next season - that would definitely motivate Danny to move KG & Pierce now.  And to move KG, he'd have to get Doc to go as well.

He'd keep it completely sealed and mum, of course, because word on it would kill his negotiating leverage.   So we should expect no clue that anything is amiss with Rondo's recovery until much later.

Again - this is totally unfounded.  But if it is the case, then Danny will try to totally blow things up, or at least make drastic changes.   Because with the current roster & cap restrictions, he simply would not have the tools to replace Rondo with a player of good enough talent to still make a run.

It also would mean he can't shop Rondo - because he could not deal in good faith without revealing any issues with his recovery.

It's all a crazy thought.   But it totally fits with what is going on with the Clippers deal.   It would explain why Doc & KG would be willing to go.

Hopefully this is just my wild imagination and lack of sleep at work.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Eh. I don't think its that serious or ominous. Simply Danny just realizes the window has closed and doesn't want to continue delaying the inevitable.
