Simply letting KG retire at the end of next year and having cap space is more valuable than anything the Clippers were trying to send Boston.

Space for who though? Monta Ellis?

Here's the next 3 years of FA's, I'd hope we'd be able to manage to get at least one if not two players from this list.  I have my preferences, of course.

2013 Free Agents

C/PF
Smith
West
Howard
Bynum
Millsap
Jefferson
Pekovic (RFA)

Wings
Iguodala
Ginobli
Mayo
Martin

2014 Free Agents

C/PF
Cousins (RFA)
Monroe (RFA)
Sanders (RFA)
Favors (RFA)
Bosh (ETO)
Randolph
Duncan
Nowitzki
Gortat
P.Gasol
Bogut

Wings
James (ETO)
Anthony (ETO)
Deng
George (RFA)
Granger
Wade (ETO)
Gay

2015 Free Agents

C/PF
M.Gasol
Aldridge
Love (P)
Hibbert (P)
Lopez (P)
Asik

RONDO???

I think the ideal situation for KG retiring isn't just leaving to create cap space, but preferably being willing wait to send in his papers and allowing us to move him to a team in need of cap relief in exchange for a bad contract (expiring or one we can amnesty) and a young asset.

Looking at that crop of players I think we could definitely pick up at least one of those guys (2014 looks particularly deep, although the young guys are RFA). I just worry that Boston isn't the best draw for NBA players these days and I really don't want to see Danny overpaying for a guy like Smith, Bogut or Aldridge, or having to scrape the bottom of the FA barrel because guys choose more appealing destinations.

I think if the Clips were going to make this trade, it would've been at the trade deadline.

I can't imagine they deal their two best young players for an even older KG this summer.

If they did, I would still do it.

Next year, I think a starting lineup of Bledsoe, Bradley, Green, Sully and Jordan could be fun to watch.

Not to mention if Rondo progresses well from his injury you can either deal him this summer or by next year's deadline for a true impact player.

Two best young players?

Blake Griffin says hello.

No deal on those two scrubs.

cap space?  there is none of that with bass, terry, lee, green, and rondo on the team, at least not anywhere near enough to sign anyone of note.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

Their guys are still playing no?  KG is hurt.   While I was equally split, I love this team and like seeing them on the court, I also hate to see us another year older with NO shot this year to win the title.   Now I hope I am wrong on that count but I just don't see it.

I would have made the trade because I want the Cs to be either a championship contender, or take the hard rebuilding steps to become one.  Bledsoe and Jordan was a lot of value for a player of KG's age, and to me was a move the Clips should have made if they truly wanted to win the title this season. Considering that they probably won't be willing to pay Bledsoe if CP3 is still a Clip, I would have gone all in with KG. They could have made a strong run this season, and then signed a few ring chasers to fill out any weak spots on their roster and made a stronger run next year.  Teams like Miami and the Lakers have that advantage of being attractive to veterans who are willing to take chump change for a run at a ring, and KG would have given the Clips even more cachet as a desirable location.  The Clips could have had a true two or three year championship window, as opposed to being at the top of the undercard.

For Boston, if they get dispatched int he first round, not making the trade looks worse.  If they make a run, it looks better.
