Why not? Low risk high reward signing. He impresses in camp guarantee him and send him to the d league. If he doesn't, cut him after he provides and extra training camp body.

I think his deal is a good faith sort of thing

while there's nothing binding, he's probably going to accept a contract with the Red Claws and develop there under our staff's supervision

if he gets an offer from another team, chances are good that he'll give the C's the right to match

it isn't a true minor league system, but they are trying to work it that way

This.

They seem to have guys like this every year, who they don't expect to make the team, but they want to get a closer look at in Maine to be a possible longer term project.

Yeah, and it seems there is always someone(s?) who move from the summer league team to a camp contract.  Perhaps they're offered as an extended tryout package?

Another reason Danny's smarter than most.

Anyone know how the new CBA impacts relationship between NBA and D league affiliates. Never understood why there could not be clearer tie or why NBA teams would not have more rights to players on D league affiliates. In addition to send roster players down there should be a certain number of player that you have there on a Restricted basis (like a restricted Free Agent. You should at least have first shot at signing someone, before another NBA team poaches them from your "farm team".

some of yall are bashin da rookies too much. ur clamoring for guys who had minimal impact on dis team ( Daniels, Dooling) nd disregarding players wit a lot of potential. I seen enough underachieving random injuries broken jumpers nd missed layups wit daniels nd dooling. wat did they do so much betta in their celtics stints dat make them head nd shoulders betta then Jamar Smith, Christmas, or Joseph at dis point of their career

Keyon Dooling last year: 4.0 ppg 1.1apg on 40% shootin
Marquis Daniels last year: 3.2ppg 1.7rpg 1.2apg on 36% shootin

now once again we havent seen enough fails from them? just cuz they're vets dont mean their effective or produce at a high level. I think Christmas can come thru nd get rotation minutes dont push him aside just cuz he's an undrafted rookie. Udonis Haslem nd gary Neal were undrafted players who went overseas nd came to da league nd both of them carved out nice careers for themselves as rotation players. even for us who expected Greg Stiemsma to play a role before da season last year? i didnt lol
