Great topic.

I think Avery.
It is the same starting lineup that the Cs had last year when they went on the great run.
Agreed.  You have to break this down into before and after Bradley returns.

Before: Lee and Terry split it with Terry backing up Rondo at point with Dooling in spotty point minutes.

After: Bradley starts after easing back into things and Lee then plays primary alongside Terry when the second unit is on the floor. Dooling will be the one losing all playing time at this point.

A healthy AB or not, Lee is going to be the starting SG all season. Shoulders take alot longer to heal than what most people think.
Jet, AB, Green,Bass and Melo all come off the bench.
I hope that Avery's shoulder isn't so bad that Doc is already thinking this.

If Courtney Lee gets only 12-14 minutes per game, then that was an awfully bad trade Danny made. I see him playing more in the 20-25 minute range.

I think this is true while Bradley is out to start the season, but once he comes back what do you do?  Play Terry or Bradley only 12-14 minutes?  I think they're both more talented/bring more to the table than Lee which is why I would personally play them over him.

There's enough minutes for them all to get 20+ a game with everybody healthy.  It just requires playing Lee a few minutes a night at the three.

With injuries, back-to-back games, and a few Rondo suspensions, things will work out.

Ha!  ;D

Agree about the Lee at SF thing, and I said the same thing on page 1.  But then you start to try to imagine the SF minutes and you start to wonder how you're gonna fit all of those players in:

SF: Pierce (33) Green (15) Lee (?)

I'm guessing Green will play around 10 or so minutes a night at the PF when Doc runs his small ball/stretch 4 line-up, but ideally you want Green to get a chance to play some major minutes.  25 would be sufficient I think, but then where does Lee fit in if Green takes all the back-up 3 minutes?

Don't get me wrong, I know that having options is good thing, but how does Doc fit everyone into the rotation/keep everyone happy?

Some good thoughts on here.

I really think Doc needs to keep Rondo's minutes down during the regular season. As long as the Cs are doing pretty well and staying in the hunt for one of the top seeds, I don't think Rondo should ever play 40 minutes in a game, and I'd even like to see his per-game average drop below the 36-37 he's had over the past three seasons. Of course, he'll probably play his usual minutes while Bradley's out, but once he's back, I see no reason to play Rondo more than 32 a game, which would also allow Bradley and Jet to get more minutes at the 1, thus enabling them and Lee to get more minutes per game overall, which I think is what should happen.

I'd like to see something like this (subject to variation, of course, depending especially on matchups):

Rondo: 32
AB: 24 (PG 6, SG 16)
Jet: 22 (PG 10, SG 12)
Lee: 22 (SG 20, SF 2)

At SF:

Pierce 30, Green 16, Lee 2

At PF:

Bass 28, Wilcox 8, Sully 8, Green 4

At C:

KG 30, Wilcox 12, Sully/Collins/Melo 6

I realize I gave Green only 20 total minutes, and he should be playing probably 25-28, but like I said above, lineups will change based on matchups, and it's also likely that at least a couple of guys will miss a couple of games here and there (hopefully) minor injuries, and Doc may also rest KG and Pierce (or even Rondo) on some of the back-to-backs. Perhaps a better way to break it down is simply by what I'd like to see each guy get per game (average), regardless of the positional breakdown:

Rondo: 32
Bradley: 20-25
Jet: 20-22
Lee: 20-22
Pierce: 28-30
Green: 25-28
Bass: 25-28
KG: 28-30
Wilcox: 20-22
Sully: 12-15 (initially, anyway)

Given these ranges, if you take the lower end of each and add them up, you get 230 minutes out of a game total of 240, so that leaves 10 minutes of wiggle room for giving certain rotation guys a bit more on any given night.

As for the rest of the team:

Spot minutes: Dooling, Melo, Joseph, Collins, Player 15 (TBD)

On nights where everybody's healthy, I've got something like this:

Rondo 36, Terry 12
Bradley 24, Lee 14, Terry10
Pierce 28, Green 14, Lee 6
Bass 28, Green 16, Wilcox 4
Garnett 28, Wilcox 20

Totals:

Rondo 36
Green 30
Garnett 28
Pierce 28
Bass 28
Wilcox 24
Bradley 24
Terry 22
Lee 20

Obviously, that's just a complete guess.  Those minutes can be shuffled around a bit, but overall I see a good 9 man rotation where everybody gets a chance to contribute.

Dooling gets minutes at least at the start of the season while Avery's out.  Collins will most likely see situational spot minutes.  The youngsters will most likely have to wait for injuries or garbage time to get their chances.  Those chances will inevitably come, but we'll have to be patient.

Doc's definitely got his work cut out for him, and I'm pretty sure we, the fans, won't be easy on him whenever our individual binkies aren't getting the minutes we think they deserve.

I think it shapes up to be a really fun, exciting season, though.

I hadn't read your breakdown when I was creating mine.  The main difference is I don't see Sully getting minutes right off the bat.  If he starts the season in the rotation, with Doc going 10 deep, that's great, though.

Either way, it goes to show that the minutes can be distributed.  It definitely looks like our combo guards, Bradley and Jet-Lee, will have to be happy to stay in the low 20s when everyone is healthy.  If the team plays up to its potential and is winning games, I'm sure everyone will be happy.

No problem. And you could be right about Sully sitting to begin the season. Like you, though, I have high hopes he'll be playing often and effectively, especially since he could (I believe) really improve our rebounding.

I also hope that guys are happy playing fewer minutes than they might on a mediocre or bad team—we're going for the gold, which I think they all realize, so hopefully that makes them all happy campers.
