Jason Terry, Avery Bradley, Courtney Lee. Three outstanding choices to play shooting guard for your team, but with only 48 minutes a game to work with how do you split up the minutes.

avery, if fully healthy, will most likely start because of his defense. lee has a legit shot at the starting position, but last years performance with avery solidifies him as a great candidate for starting.

the bench would have terry playing the 1 and lee at the 2.

normal bench:

terry - lee - green - sully - fab/collins

However, everything is not black and white. rondo can play entire games sometimes. Heres the deadly bench squad playing with rondo (small ball with 2 shooting guards and sully at the 5):

rondo -  terry - lee - green - sully

Great call with the small bench mob. I was thinking about Lee playing some three, and that would be a nice way to do it.

Great question, have thought about this myself.  Here are my thoughts:

First, it is probably more like 60 minutes you are splitting between the 3 because Terry not Dooling will be Rondo's primary back-up at point guard.  So throw in 10 minutes at the 1, and then another 2 per game for small ball when Lee at 6"5 plays the 3.  Give or take.

Assuming 60 minutes, I would say you have Bradley playing 28, Terry playing 20, and Lee getting 12 minutes a night.

This is also assuming Avery Bradley is playing at the level he was playing at last spring, which I am not completely sold on.

A healthy AB or not, Lee is going to be the starting SG all season. Shoulders take alot longer to heal than what most people think.
Jet, AB, Green,Bass and Melo all come off the bench.

If Avery Bradley can take the job from a HOF All Time Player like Ray Allen ,

why cant he lose the job to Lee?

Well two of these three (Bradley & Terry) will most likely be relied upon to play back-up point guard minutes as well.  If history is any indication then Rondo will play somewhere in the 35 minute per night range which means that there will be 13 minutes left over for them to fill.  In the end I think that Lee gets squeezed out a bit and may end up playing some minutes at the 3 when they go small with Green at the 4.  Here's how I envision the minutes generally breaking down when we're fully healthy (and I have my questions as to what Bradley will be able to contribute this season):

PG - Rondo (35) Terry (13)
SG - Bradley (22) Terry (12) Lee (14)

Nobody.  But, Bradley will probably get the most minutes there as Terry and Lee will be getting minutes at the 1 and 3, respectively.

Really depends on Averys health and development. If he can become a pretty good shooter or a pretty good 3 point shooter which we saw a glimpse of last year than that will help him out a lot.

Im also curious who closes games there. I think generally it will be Terry (kind of like ray) but you will also see bradley (again depending on health and development) and to a lesser extent Lee all getting their chance.

If Courtney Lee gets only 12-14 minutes per game, then that was an awfully bad trade Danny made. I see him playing more in the 20-25 minute range.

Great topic.

I think Avery.
It is the same starting lineup that the Cs had last year when they went on the great run.
Celtics fan for life.

I think this is true while Bradley is out to start the season, but once he comes back what do you do?  Play Terry or Bradley only 12-14 minutes?  I think they're both more talented/bring more to the table than Lee which is why I would personally play them over him.

Wow, I seem to really be in the minority on this but I am much more excited about our tall ball line up than our small ball:

Rondo
Pierce
Green
Garnett
Collins

I recognize that minutes at the 2 are limited but I really don't see any need to play Terry at 3 just so Green can play 4?  Why play them both out of position?

When Bradley is fully back, someone is going to be under utilized as those 3 will be sharing probably something like 64 minutes (48 at 2 and 16 at 1).  So we will have two guys making around $5M and playing around 20 minutes (Dooling is just insurance).

With injuries, back-to-back games, and a few Rondo suspensions, things will work out.
