Thankfully he doesn't want to go anywhere else, and that should be good for us in the long run. I'm hoping, though, that Danny will do whatever's needed to keep him around ... this guy is far from "done".

LINK?
I heard he is upset over the trade rumors this past season.

I would love KG to stay in Boston!  KG brings all the intangibles that make people who are around him better.  He makes interviews worth watching.  He makes Celticsblogger better.  And I heard he rescued a kitty on Causeway Street!
He'd be worth signing to a contract simply for that reason.

However, he is far from done!  There has been way too many people lamenting his demise.
They are the same people who are now jumping on the bandwagon that lauds his recent performance.

A few years ago Paul Pierce took a reduced contract from the prior one.  I wondered at the time why he didn't sign for less and give the Celtics even more flexibility, if he indeed wanted another championship.  Imagine if Pierce had signed for 5 mill.  KG and Ray resigned for 3 mill each.  What a message:  We want to win more than we want money!

However, that is not what's going on in the NBA.
There is still an ongoing conflict between the players and the owners.

At the end of a players career, after he's made a lifetime of money it would make sense to see the big picture. If a player truly wanted to win a championship he'd sacrifice salary to allow the team to sign other players that would help the team.

KG will look at all offers.  The price for retaining him will go up  And he'll examine his options.
Which is too bad.  Because KG is unique. One of a Kind!  It will be hard seeing him on another team!

If he stays here and signs for 10 mil, you guys will be the same ones who say Danny screwed up and overpaid KG, or should have blown it up!

From the Boston Globe:

"I want to finish my career as a Celtic," said Garnett, who joined Boston in a trade with Minnesota before the 2007-08 season. "This is it. I don’t plan on bouncing from team-to-team, that's not really the plan. Hopefully God willing, I can finish my career out in the classy, elegant with a class-full organization as Boston. I don't want to downgrade. I want to continue to be where I'm at. This is the first option and hopefully the only option."

When asked if he would play past next season, Garnett said with a giggle: "My body and I gotta actually have a one-on-one to see future-wise, where I'm at and what I want to do. So I will make that decision."

i don't see the heat or chi town as suitors for allen or kg, reason is the cap, even if the heat amensty miller they won't be bellow the luxury tax level to offer a 5 million dollar deal, they could only offer a 3 million. Chi town won't either afer they sign asik.

One little mentioned advantage that boston has is that they can offer No trade clauses as both allen and kg have played 4 years here. The timberwolves could offer kg a no trade clause but he stated no way his going back, and with allen the thunder and bucks are the teams that could offer the clause. The main competition i think may be with the thunder, but i suspect that allen won't wanna move to oklahoma

For Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray allen - A pay cut with a no trade clause guarantees them a dignified retirement as a Boston Celtic. Just as they deserve. They already have a ring. I'd say that closing out their career the right way weighs more as time passes. If it were me, I'd take that rather than a premium contract and the stress at trade deadline.
I moved the cheese.

We have cornerstones, pierce & rondo signed then I think jjj, moore and bradley.  I think it should be priority #1 to get kg even if that means we can't afford ray or bass.  Oddly enough I think danny should make it a point to resign greg as well.

Highly premature to consider JJJ and Moore "cornerstones." I haven't seen much from them that interests me, and I am really unconcerned if either return.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I think 2short was calling Pierce and Rondo cornerstones, then listing the other three players under contract next season.

  • You say when......
Well, maybe kg should talk to tom brady....if a leader like tom brady can restructure HIS contract for the greater good...then so can kg....i mean..maybe kg will anyway..

;D
yes coach bo as loose cannon stated, PP and RR are signed for next season these are two cornerstones you build around
besides those 2 others listed are who i believe we have under contract (off the top of my head), I can see avery continuing to develop, hoping jjj improves and could simply take bass' minutes then we can't forgot about resigning him because we still have jeff green to think about resigning along with kg,ray maybe and throw in a okafor deal or something

I think KG is way more interested in legendary status and stuff like what happened today than money. There is no way he goes somewhere that can't compete for an extra $4 mill or something. No WAY

How many more seasons would KG have to play in green for no one (not just you, but no Boston fan out there) to dispute that he should have his number retired by the Celtics?

1 ring or two more good seasons after this one...it can help if he says stuff like "Celtics foreverrrr!" and stuff like that

If KG wants to compete for a championship he will accept about 5 mil for 2 years .

With a roster of

PP
Rondo
Bass
Bradley
JJJ
Moore
c's pick
clippers pick
2nd rd pick

The c's payroll is at $38,822,420

Resign Jeff Green and KG for 5 mil for 2 years each
Resign Steamer for 1 year 3 mil
Resign Ray 1 year 3 mil
Humpheries 1 year 6 mil

2013-13 Roster

PG:Rondo       / Bradley     / Vet nin
SG: Ray        / Draft pick  / Moore
SF: PP         / Jeff Green  / Vet min
PF: Humpheries / Bass        / clips pick
 C: KG         /Steamer      /2nd rd pick

By signing Ray, steamer and Humpheries to 1 year deals it would still allow us to add a max free agent in 2013 with Ray, Steamer,Humpheries and Bass coming off the books .
