I think this penalty is over the top.

Every sport, save for soccer/baseball has gotten too sissy.

IMHO...This has nothing to do with sissy.  This has everything to do with the integrity of the game.

Anything short of dealing with this severely is a tacid endorsement of the activity.  If coaches can overtly pay players...Why not fans?  Why can't coaches pay officials?  Why can't fans?  What happens to the game?

If Goodell dealt with this the way Stern deals with officiating...The NFL turns into Death Race 2000.

If he's smart, he stays.  Brees is a product of Payton's offense.  The weapons are pretty much still there.  At this point, an assistant is probably taking over...There is no way they'd change the offense this quick.....Nor should they.

I agree with this.  I bet that almost every team had some form of this going on at one point or another.  What looks bad for Payton is that he lied about it, didn't stop it after the NFL looked into it.  It has no place in the NFL, but SP's management of that situation was really bad.  I think he is a decent coach, but lacked the common sense and discipline to stop that nonsense.

That's crazy. Too bad for Sean Payton, I highly doubt he was the only coach condoning this stuff but looks like he'll be the posterboy for why you shouldn't do it.

Goodell needs to get it get it together.  There has to be some kind of appeal system in place.  Completely unjust

Personally, I like having an insanely strong commissioner who has little challenge to his authority, so long as the commissioner is fair.  I trust Goddell; I wouldn't trust Stern.
