He has always been cheap with the elbows, not that I like dwight that much BUT akeem was known to wack many a player with an elbow.
That said I would be fine with Howard being a physical - dirty player if he had perks face.  Don't smile all the time like its no big deal, you want to play like rick mahorn fine but he's trying to use his elbows to his advantage AND get a orbit gum commerical deal at the same time!

hahahaha exactly!!!!!!!

And not the good filthy.  I really dislike this guy.  He comes off all smiles and goofy like he is a little kid so lucky to be in the league.  He jokes around.  Very disarming.  Then, you see what he does on the court with the elbows.  Always trying to spread them out with pinpoint intentions.  He pretends not to know the positions of the opposing players that he smashes, but they know better and so does he.  He was pulling it last night and almost had his head knocked off by Jermaine as a result. Anybody else picking up on this?  And watching this guy shoot the ball is like watching a soulless robot that has been camped out near a beach rusting out.  No sir, I don't like him...

I hear what you say, but it is just the "Karl Malone blueprint." Malone never got called for that stuff, and, frankly, I don't see why more big men don't do it, since it is clearly "allowed".
Celtics fan for life.

Danny should pull of the ultimate misdirection. Get Dwight and spin him for Kevin Love.

I've been saying this since day 1. Dwight "Elbows" Howard is a filthy player that I would never want to see on the Celtics, despite his so called greatness. He's one of the most overrated bigs of all time, and like a previous poster stated, would never make it with the bigs of the 1990s. He's a lucky he's playing now with no competition, otherwise he'd be a journeyman hack.

True.  But I'd love for him to be our filthy player

we shouldn't have to worry about that "perplexing potential problem of perspective"...

Great alliteration Retro, TP. Enjoyed that...

I don't know how many on this board have played the post but elbows make space and you use them.   Our guys elbow too.   Trouble is with a 6-10 to seven footer is that your elbows are head level for the little guys.  But almost all bigs elbow to clear space folks.

I think they do not use him well.  He is a physical specimen who can physically overwhelm the opposition but his skill level is not that high.

Um, no. Dwight Howard picks up the ball high, faces the basket, spreads his elbows and starts spinning like a windmill. This is an extremely dangerous play, because it's highly likely that he'll catch someone in the head. I don't think anyone would be making such a big deal of it if it were your usual pushing and shoving under the basket.

Dirk does the same thing too, and it needs to be called more often. Its an offensive foul everytime because of the risk of concussion and broken bones in your face when elbows are used as weapons like that.

To be fair, Dwight gets hacked, slapped, and shoved around on practically every trip up or down the court.  It's the only thing that other teams can do to try and deal with him.  Similar to Shaq, refs tend to swallow their whistles a bit with him because of his physical dominance.

So I can totally understand how Dwight would get frustrated and fight back with some elbows to try to make some space for himself.
I understand his frustration with it, but you can't let a player make dangerous plays. Don't forget that Howard over his career has injured an awful lot of other players with his elbows and its not coincidental its how he uses them. (including at least two teammates in practice!)

Plus its not like Howard doesn't dish out punishment in the post or on the defensive end even if you disregard the elbows he throws all the time. He plays like a frustrated high school player far too often with stuff like this.

They scheme with him very well, I think the one in four out offensive scheme is a very good one for Howard and his teams.

What holds him back is the lack of a passer that can get him the ball on the move and in the post deep and early. Hedo is the only guy on that team who can even throw a post entry pass, and not one player on that team hits him on the roll often enough when he's open. (Jameer is just terrible at it, awful) Without such a passer or anyone who can create looks from the perimeter their offense gets stuck in the mud.

Kozlodoev, sorry but many are taught that you chin the ball and pivot to clear space.  Peeps have been doing it for years.  What do you think this is bitty ball?   I see that done all the time.

Here is Red telling Russ to get the elbows out.

This would have been the early seventies.

Here is Russell when he plays and yes, sometimes he swings his elbows

Guess what coaches even teach this
