Dwight will end up with LA.  He's always seemed like the Laker type to me... Obnoxious, cheap, more obsessed with fame than getting better.  He's a celebrity who happens to play basketball.  Lakers just make sense

A deal with Lopez makes a lot of sense in that Orlando is getting back a 23 year-old center who could make many All-Star teams. PR spin there is easy.

That being said, from a true basketball perspective I would be seeing red flags all over the place. This is a center who played 35 MPG and pulled down 6 RPG. For perspective, that's worse rebounding than Mark Blount AFTER his big contract. Maybe it was an off year, or whatever, but that's alarming. For bonus points he's among the worst passers, decision makers, AND defenders at his position. Thank God he's a hell of a scorer.

This really comes down to scouting - if you project Lopez as a future 20/10 guy who will learn to play defense, this offer makes tons of sense. If the real Lopez is going to continue to be among the worst rebounders and defenders at this position, and want an eight-figure salary... pass.

This is the main reason I think there's a (smallish) chance he ends up in Boston. Would he rather play a smaller offensive role on a better team, or play with a great passer who would rather feed DH the ball all day than take an open shot? If someone told him he'd have a somewhat better chance to win the title on the Nets (for example), but a significantly better chance at winning the MVP in Boston, which would he choose? I wouldn't be surprised if he chose the Celts in that scenario, he could wear his superman cape to accept his mvp trophy.

Here's a Celtics scenario that uses Houston as the 3rd team:

BOS: Dwight Howard, Kyle Lowry, Hasheem Thabeet
ORL: Rajon Rondo, J. O'Neal, Glen Davis, 1st (Clippers), 1st (Houston)
HOU: Jeff Green, Jameer Nelson, 1st (Celtics)

Boston gets Superman, decent Rondo replacement (Lowry), Thabeet ("the stinker")
Orlando gets Rondo, Big Baby, an expiring deal, and 2 decent 1st rounders
Houston gets Green, Nelson for Lowry and Thabeet.

I think this is clearly a coup for Boston (getting Howard and still a good young PG), Houston gets two players for Lowry, and Orlando gets an affordable star, expiring deal, role player, and 2 decent 1st rounders.

Compared to some of the trades that are posted, this is actually a pretty fair offer.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

this isn't bad...we get dwight immediately, but lose rondo :(, so say this happens, will it appeal CP3 to come here then?

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Lopez and 2 1st rounders sounds like the worst deal ever for a once in a lifetime C like Howard. 1st rounders are nice but they are a gamble, no matter how well you draft. And Brooke Lopez is softer than Chris Bosh sandwiched between two twinkies.
