I don't think Perk would have gone to Miami, and even if he had, I don't think that should be a huge consideration for this year's team.

Yes, I don't understand why people keep saying the Perk-Miami thing. Miami has a minimum of 63mil tied up for 2011 and I highly doubt there will be a new MLE type of exception for 8+ million after this new CBA.

I know Ainge isn't always completely truthful in media interviews, but he claims that the fact that they and Perk hadn't come together for an extension had no impact on the decision to trade him and I believed his sincerity there. I believe he even said a few seconds later that "basketball is played on both sides" or something similar. And that had to be his angle. I honestly think he was improving or maintaining how good the team was for this season and the lack of an extension had little to do with the trade.

The $63MM tied up for 2011 is irrelevant.   They'll use their MLE and get a very good player.

There was a good article about how the MLE in Florida and Texas is actually quite comparable to bigger contracts in higher tax states (assuming you keep your residence in those higher tax states).
