KG is a great complimentary player (maybe the best ever in that regard), but he is not a #1 guy and never has been. He always has needed players around with him the killer instinct and stones to hit the big shot. He got that with Spree and Co. in Minny and now has it with Pierce and Allen in Boston.
I think that's unfair, his offensive game hasn't aged as well so now he needs Pierce/Allen/Rondo. But early in his career he was a dynamic number one offensive option. Excellent shooting, passing, face up, and post game.
Plus I'll add that every time he's had a decent team around him he went far in the playoffs, they put a lot of garbage around him.
He didn't get out of the first round 1 time in 7 seasons. That says all you really need to know.
This is ridiculous. 08' we win #17 with KG.
09' we were bounced by a paper tiger....w/o kg
10' we make the finals....with a 80% kg and should have won.
11' reamins to be seen but so far we're the top if not the 2nd best team in the league.....with a healthy kg.
do you see a trend?
Yeah that KG is a great second fiddle to Pierce's top dog. To win a title you need the second fiddle. As 2009 demonstrated, you don't need a second fiddle to win a playoff series.
Is Dilfer a better qb than Marino because he has a ring? He must be if playoff wins are the sole determining factor.
God YES ! A thousand time YES!
Hello! You PLAY to WIN the GAME.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNooFZPfmgE&feature=player_embeddedYou don't play for stats. You don't play for yards. You don't play for MVPs. You don't play for Hall of Fame inductions. You don't play for regular season records. You don't play for Pro Bowls. You don't play for all-pros. You don't play for money. You don't play to be on the cover of magazines. You don't play to get Nike ads.
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.
Trent won. Marino didn't.
And let me tell you something. I am sick and tired of this attitude like Trent Dilfer lucked his way into a Super Bowl win. How many rings have the Ravens won since he left? The offense got better. The defense stayed the same. Only thing that changed was Trent.
Marino had his shot. He played in a Super Bowl. Brady won his first Super Bowl as young guy with no offense. Trent won his with no receivers.
Marino made the playoffs 10 times and never won a thing. He also missed the playoffs a lot. Marino lost to Tony Esiason in the playoffs. In the 1993 playoffs he gave up a 15 point half time lead to the Chargers. The guy never even won another AFC championship game let alone a Super Bowl.
Of course playoff wins are the sole determining factor. Would you ever want a player on your team if he was like "Well I don't care about playoff wins or anything."? Of course not. Because you PLAY to WIN the GAME.
Dan didn't do it. Trent did. That is why Trent is the better quarterback.
