I'd rather bring back Michael Finley.
Agreed.  I like House, but I don't see what he has to offer the Cs at this point, other than good leadership (but there's plenty of that already).
Celtics fan for life.

I think he would be decent insurance for the vet min if either Rondo or Nate get injured.  I'm not ready yet to rely on Bradley on that third pg role for insurance.  After all Bradley is a 19 year old rookie and the last "defensive rookie" we drafted in the first round JR Giddens didn't work out so well.

Also if we decide to trade Nate for a bigger need midseason it's nice to know Eddie would be right there to step in Nate's place.

The only question is, how willing is Eddie to be the 3rd point guard on a team where the 2nd point guard doesn't get that many minutes?

I'm not sure it'll sit well.  Ultimately I think that's why he won't come back to begin with.

Good point however the 2nd point guard on all the contenders even Miami now is about taken up.   If he wants to be on a winner he might have to settle for being the third pg.

I question how much he even cares about that.  He already has his ring.  And I don't know how meaningful it would be for him riding the bench to another.

This article was very much in the past tense.  Between that, and common sense, I think most of these discussions went down before the Robinson signing.

At this point, there just is not much of a role in Boston for House, so it would make little sense for him to return here, unless he wanted to take Scals spot at the end of the bench.

I actually have a sick feeling he will be in Miami when all is said and done.  He has played there before, and would fit in perfectly as a backup PG who is really just a SG catching kickouts from Lebron and Wade.

Maybe.  But Eddie, as I said in a post above, already has his ring.  If someone offers him more than the minimum, I bet he goes there.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I'd rather have a bucket of cement with a prosthetic arm sticking out of it than I would to bring back finley...

when i see those comments i really have to wonder how long it's been since some of you guys have cleaned the dust off your television sets.

we wouldn't need eddie house to play for 20 minutes a night...  we're talking about a specialist who comes in for brief spurts and provides a spark plug and gives a breather to ray.

i'm not sure finley can even wave a towel very well.  eddie can shoot the ball, and with jj redick off the list, eddie would be a nice addition for a cheap price (if he agrees) and for the small handful of minutes he'd play.  plus, he wouldn't need to play PG, an obvious weakness of his.  i see nothing wrong with bringing him back, especially since some of you guys also love brian "i'm great in the locker room" scalabrine.  eddie can provide that locker room presence, and unlike scal, he's actually worth a few bucks it would take to bring him here...

I miss the "House on Fire!" posts!

I see no harm in bringing him back...I watched the man carry us a few games over the years with his shooting.

I remember a MIA game just last regular season where he heated up and almost single-handedly put them away:

TP(s) to xmuscularghandi for the youtube post!

Pros: Knows the Celtics Offense, and will be able to space the floor once again for us. Another sharpshooter off the bench. Gives 150% effort when he's on the floor. Great guy in the locker room.

Cons: Not the best defender, but I think far from the worse one, too. Would he agree with the vet min?

Plus - with him coming back, what are the odds of both him and Ray Allen being off on a given night? He gives us another weapon.

I think I'll take the 6'7" old guy who can shoot threes but can't guard shooting guards and small forwards over the 6'1" old guy who can shoot threes but can't guard shooting guards and point guards.

Well, I don't know....I just looked at NBA.com historcial player search, and Eddie has been lights out from Three land the last several yrs, especially with us.

Josh Howard's best years from 3 were in 05-06 - 06-07. I suppose that Josh at least has the height, and if he's willing he can learn to play defense for us, I think.

We'd have to give up a lot more to get Josh, though..
