I'm all ears because trading Sheed all by himself is the ideal situation. But it needs to be a guy with a relatively bad contract or a team rushing to dump salary to get in on the FA sweepstakes.....why else would Sheed's contract be appealing?

So, who are these bigs on teams looking for a pure salary dump? CHA seems like one of the only ones....maybe Sactown? I don't know...there's not many.

I hope one pops up soon because in a couple of days we could be looking at Brad Miller as the guy.

It would be appealing because it immediately saves teams about $6 million (or more)...and twice that if they are over the luxury tax lines.  Considering the state of the NBA economy, this is huge.

Did you not pay attention to things these last few years...or days?  OKC moved up into the lottery of the draft, and then got a second mid first round pick for taking on the salaries of Mo Pete (who expires this year) and Cook.

I am sure a guy like Jeff Foster could easily be had (along with an extra asset) for Sheed's contract.  And we could probably even get Troy Murphy, if we threw in something extra.  Chandler could certainly be had.  GS would likely consider Biedrins.  Nick Collison might be an option.  Of course there is Eddie Curry if Danny gets really desperate (he would still be better than Diop).  NOH would likely pay a premium to get rid of Okafor.  Chris Kaman could probably discussed for a reasonable package.

I watched the Bobcats a ton last year, and just want to opine on their big men talentwise, leaving the salary-cap aspect out of it.

How awful Diop is cannot be overemphasized.  He absolutely sucks.  I would take Artisom Parakhouski over him 10 times out of 10.  No brainer.

Mohammed lost weight, played hard, and climbed out of Larry Brown's doghouse until getting injured.  He proved he has something to offer, and still has some gas left in the proverbial tank.

I have always hated Chandler, and consider his last season in Chicago to be his most characteristic season.  He basically sucked his way out of town.  True, playing with Chris Paul on a team with few other options, he proved that he is able to catch a perfectly delivered lob pass and throw it into the hoop.  But even a lay-up is still beyond his range.  And he is such a DUNCE that he is still, as far as I know, thinking of opting out of his contract, which pays waaaay more than he'll ever make again.  Presumably, he just wants to sign some kind of deal before the rest of the league sees him playing a whole season without Chris Paul as his PG. Ecch!

what about the value of an expiring contract to a team looking to be a playoff team?

I mean, I hope you're right Chris, but I think CHA would want more for Tyson at this point than simply Sheed's retiring contract....especially if he is coming into the season healthy.

as for Biedrins, Murphy, Okafor, Kaman, etc...I think you need to offer more than just Sheed's contract...if for no other reason than matching salary.

I like the guys you're mentioning, but I'm not sure how essentially Sheed alone gets any of them.

Yes, perhaps you will need to offer slightly more than Sheed's expiring contract for some of those guys.  But that doesn't mean they should completely throw their future cap situation out of whack by overpaying for a guy like Diop.

But I really think you are undervaluing Sheed's contract (if it is still tradable...which is a big if).  Deals like that are immensely valuable.  Yes, you need to find the right combination, but with value like that, you will find it.

While I might be overstating my case of deals they can find, I cannot stress enough the fact that Diop's contract is an albatross.  No one wants to go near it.  It has negative value.  Sheed's contract is the exact opposite.  It has significant positive value.  We can quibble about who it could get them all day, but the bottom line is that they cannot afford to use it to take on a terrible contract like Diop's.  He is a bad basketball playing making a lot of money.

No Diop.

Overpayed way to much.  Immediately means Perk would raise his price tag if the Celtics are willing to pay so much for a bankrupt version of him.

Tyson Chandler, or at least his agent said Tyson chandler planned to opt out of his contract paying him 12 million this year. I guess stability can be a valid point for someone at chandlers age coupled with his injury history. I think there is a chance the celtics could sign Chandler for the MLE depending on how things shake down with free agency. However, it would have to be for at least 3 years.
