As a rumor, this makes all kind of sense. Perk -- even with a knee injury -- is our most attractive trade asset for his skills and the price (besides Rondo of course, who isn't going anywhere). It's worth gauging his value.

I assume Danny is talking to SAC. Would they trade the #5 (which they're rumored to be unenthusiatic with) for Perk and #19 if the Cs would take Francisco Garcia?

Two items here:

1) This is now Rondo's team, and for all his excellent defense, Perk is not a very good fit on a Rondo team. He doesn't run the floor well and is a liability on offense -- unable to go straight up or put down alley-oops, while clogging the middle and stopping the ball when he gets it.

2) Garcia would be a good fit on a Rondo team. Good shooter, underrated defender, can run the floor, excellent lockerroom guy, etc. I'm totally comfortable with 3 years of Garcia at the MLE.

First off I love Perk and think he is one of the best defensive centers in the league.

However, he tore his mcl and pcl. PCL knee injuries can slow you down permanently. Does Perk lose a step after the injury? Is a step slower Perk to slow to really be useful?

I agree that it is now Rondo's team, let's bring in some young athletic players to run with him.

I love Perk, his work ethic, Celtic pride, and the toughness he brings to the middle.

We all know he's limited offensively.  Some of us mistakenly think he's a great defender, which isn't true.  He's a great situational defender against low post threats.  He's a so-so to poor defender against quick 5's that can step out and shoot from 12 feet (Bogut types) and an average defender of mobile bigs on the S/R (like Howard).  Fortunately for us, it took Stan Van Gundy 3 losses before he figured out to make DHoward move a little bit, rather than dumping the ball into the post to him.  The Nelson/Howard S/R is where they started racking up some points, and Perk didn't do a fabulous job defending that.

So let's not overrate his value here-he's not the next Bill Russell.  He's a role player, not a cornerstone.

It would seem like this might be a bad time to trade Perk. His value has to be the lowest it has been in a while with the injury coupled off a post season where his offense regressed to Ben Wallace levels. If he helped us get players that could contribute next season, I'm all for it. I'm just not sure what kind of deal would be there.

Barring a last-minute change in thinking, the New Jersey Nets will select Georgia Tech freshman Derrick Favors over Syracuse's Wesley Johnson with the No. 3 pick, ESPN.com was told Thursday morning.

Then Minny will pick Wes and the Kings will be staring at Cousins .  I think that's where Ainge would make the deal if it is going to happen.

I think that if Mn is able to move Jefferson then they might take cousins themselves.
