Rudy Gay would be a very good assett, but if the idea is build for the future, my thinking is tied to getting a superstar to team up with Rondo.  Gay doesn't fit that bill in my opinion.  Rondo is great, but we need another top 10 guy to be championship contenders in the future.  When The Big 3-II is over, it's all about finding the next great (not very good) Celtic, IMO.

You team up Gay with Rondo and he is easily a top 15-20 talent in the NBA imo. He can do just about everything on the floor and would be great to have to defend wings like Lebron and wade. Not going to happen though because they would want Rondo.

The Celtics are unlikely to sign a superstar as a free agent, so that means acquiring potential trade assets who can be packaged for a superstar.  Can you see another team trading a Ray Allen or KG two years from now for a package of Gay, a first round draft pick, a young player with some upside, and whatever dead weight contracts are needed to make the numbers work?
