I was reading on Realgm that the Grizz are thinking about doing a sign and trade with him.. I think he would be a great piece to bulid to the future with. Do you think we could get in Celtic Green? He would be a perfect running mate with Rondo and could help us contend next year and much futher beyond.

Rudy Gay is my dream that's never going to come true guy that I would like on the Celtics.  He shoots a high fg% (including from behind the arc) and provides a long athletic wing that can run with Rondo.

That being said I don't see a scenario in which we could grab him.  I just don't think we have the goods to get it done.

But yes, he would be a dream come true.

Would he be even a good second option on a championship calliber team?

I've never figured this guys game out too well, always thought of him as a high flyer.

I think he could contribute a lot to a team like us. Long wing who would be another guy to get steals and block shots and knock down shots as well.

In terms of his current ability, I think Gay is more of a third option type of talent ... but he still has considerable potential.

Playing a defensive minded championship caliber team could do wonders for his defensive effort/impact + his shot selection.

The Celtics don't have enough to offer the Grizzlies outside of Rajon Rondo which is obviously a non-starter.

Perk , #19 and Nate Robinson (s + t) for Gay.

That's a pretty strong offer. Move Ray Allen or PP to the bench as a 6th man. Sign Haywood .

Not gonna happen though. They would want Rondo.

I could live with this once a game... but i don't think it's likely.

I'd definitely be down with trying to get this guy, but only for the right price. No max money (considering that he is not an offensive carrier). And no Rondo.

...so in other words he might not be for us. But you've got to at least kick the tires.

Gay is a great talent and much more than just and athlete who can fly.

He holds a career FG% of .454.  Just for some reference, Ray Allen holds a career FG% of .450.  And we're not talking about a small sample size either, we're talking about him going 2118-4665 over a 4 year span.  This is a guy who is taking quality shots and making a them at a good clip.

He also shot .346% on 3 pointers for his career (going 337-974 over his four years, including his rookie year in which he went 52-143 for a .364 3PT%)  Just as a comparison, Paul Pierce has a career .369 3PT%.

This guy is an all around good player and at 6'8 and 230 pounds he could be a monster on a championship caliber team.  Get him serious about defense and he's the best case scenario for a guy who could try to slow down someone like Lebron James.

I'd love to have him...but it's not gonna happen.

  • Rondo = Good
Somebody's gonna overpay for him in the off-season and the Grizzlies won't match.

If I had to guess, I'd say the Knicks or the Nets.

The have Marc Gasol and Thabeet - no real place for Perk there.

I'd love to have Gay, but we just don't have enough to make it happen.

Wasn't Memphis interested in big baby last year?  Can we move baby and say Tony(s&t) for Gay?  Man,  I'd love for us to land Gay.

I don't think they're going to take our bench for their best player...

Rudy Gay would be a very good assett, but if the idea is build for the future, my thinking is tied to getting a superstar to team up with Rondo.  Gay doesn't fit that bill in my opinion.  Rondo is great, but we need another top 10 guy to be championship contenders in the future.  When The Big 3-II is over, it's all about finding the next great (not very good) Celtic, IMO.
