I don't think the Celtics blow this up until 2012. Nor should they.

This team is too close to another title. Shouldn't be discarded.

Agreed. Far too drastic at this point, but I do think they should add what they need to / spend the money to give them the best chance of winning.

By the way, the Heat won in 2005-06. So they will be 4 years removed from that win this summer.

That lends some cred to your reference Redz. The Cs will be 4 years removed from their championship -- if they don't win another -- when KG's contract expires.

2012 Rebuilding Options

(1) Celtics get an All-NBA talent in free agency in 2012 and can field a 50+ win team. Depending on other moves, they may be able to field a Contender either that season or the following year.

(2) Celtics make some moderate signings in free agency to field around Rajon Rondo and Perkins. That gives them a .500 team to a high 40's win team.

(3) Celtics are unable to find high quality signings and refuse to settle for moderate signings (like Joe D should have done) and instead retain their cap space until the following season. Boston suffers through a losing campaign and fails to make the playoffs but they gain a lottery pick to add to Perk + Rondo and have their cap space to use that summer too (2013).

Options 1 + 3 look good to me. Option two is the riskiest play and will most likely fail.

1) 2012 Free agents - Melo and Durant. If we can pair one of them with Rondo and Perk we will be in business

3) Definitely dont sign any borderline all stars, you need to land at least a top 15-20 talent. In 2013 Dwight Howard and Big Al are free agents so we would have a good pick(likely) Rondo, Perk and a ton of cap space to add Big Al or Howard. Big Al makes us 50+ win team, Dwight Howard makes us a dynasty ;D

Let's not compare Boston to Miami.

One has history on it's side.

The other has beaches and parties.

We know which of those draw top FA like flies.

I agree with Rondo as a building block, but I am still not sold on Perk. Until he grows up and stops the constant whining and sulking, I just can't call him dependable. In fact, if a good offer came along I would seriously consider trading Perk if it could help with the rebuilding process.
