I feel like we already have a comparable bench player in Marquis Daniels, and even with Salmons' deep shooting, I like Marquis better.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to add him, but I don't see him making us appreciably better.

It would.  Less minutes for Pierce and Ray.  Another outside shooter.  Less pressure on Daniels to be the only ball handler on the 2nd team.

It is his shooting that allows him to play with Daniels.  It also gives them a 2nd scoring weapon off the bench.

Yep.  In theory, Salmons would solve two problems, as he would fill the backup 3 hole, while allowing Daniels to play backup PG (on offense) full-time when he comes back.  Instead of asking Daniels to play both the 1 and the 3, he's simply be asked to backup one position.

I'm not sure what type of deal expect us to make with our expiring contracts.  We're not going to land a star.  A pretty good player on a somewhat overpriced, but still reasonable, contract is about the most we can ask for.

As for people who think TA is better than Salmons, I don't know what to say.  I know which one I'd prefer in the closing minutes of a playoff game, without a doubt.

While I wasn't really supportive of your trade idea it's not really bad compared to a lot of proposals. I'm just leery of having 11-12 players on the roster that expect to get regular rotaion minutes. Especially with Doc here.

Thomas would be a better option at the 4 b/c it adds the oop to Rondos arsenal, plus his jumper is more reliable than BBDs.
Tyrus Thomas had an eFG% of .345 on 2 point jump shots last year. That's close to worst in the league for qualifying players. Both Glen Davis and Rondo had a better shooting percentage on 2 point jump shots.

Thomas has his virtues as a player, a reliable jump shot is not one of them. I don't think Chicago would do that deal either. They already are undersized enough and don't really need the elements that BBD adds.

Percentage wise BBD might be "better" but by reliable I mean the actual shot. BBD has a 2 inch vertical vs Tyrus's 40 inch. Tyrus actually has a JUMP SHOT. BBD just has the shot that looks like Antoine Walkers Shimmy dance.
I'm not sure what's this supposed to mean. Does how pretty the shot look effect how many points its worth? You judge a shooter's shot by how often it goes it.

I do agree that Thomas produces more rebounding, I'd rather have someone with his talent than BBD on our bench. But he's not a jumpshooter and Chicago is not giving him to us for BBD?

So, under this plan, are the Celtics still playing Eddie House?

Daniels play the point offensively + defends the SF
John Salmons plays SF offensively + defends the SG
Eddie House plays SG offensively + defends the PG

Do I have that correct?

With each player playing 12-14 minutes a night in the regular season?

In the playoffs do you go with a 9/10 man bench or shorten the rotation? Do House + Salmons + Daniels play each night or does it change series to series depending on opponent + matchups?

Salmons could help our bench during the reg. season, playing alongside the other backups (although he has a history of playing poorly off the bench).

During the playoffs, in a shorter rotation I think he'd be a net negative. The current Salmons isn't a good role-player for a very good team, unless it's an extremely handicapped very good team in terms of shot-creation (which is a bit of an oxymoron).

Sounds like a somewhat fair trade--Salmons has been playing pretty badly this year. I don't know if I like it, though.

I think that'd be worth it if we're just dumping Tony Allen/Scal.

I don't think either of them could really be a positive in the playoff rotation.
