Ya I think Elway was better,  Dont get me wrong, Favre is having a great year this year, and has proved me wrong.  But Elway was consistently better throughout his career and didnt lose as many games for his team.  There were games last year where Favre was single handedly preventing his team from competing because he was so bad.

John Elway: 4,123 of 7,250 (56.9 percent) for 51,475 yards, 300 touchdown passes and 226 interceptions. QB rating: 79.9.

Brett Favre: 5,720 of 9,280 (61.6 percent) for 65,127 yards, 464 touchdown passes and 310 interceptions. QB rating: 85.4.

After looking at those statistics, you'll notice the following.

*Favre threw for 13,653 more yards than Elway.

*Favre threw for 164 more touchdown passes then Elway.

*Favre maintained a higher completion percentage despite throwing more often than Elway.

*Favre maintained a moderately more impressive quarterback rating than Elway.

*Favre threw for 84 more interceptions then Elway.

Essentially, Favre beats out Elway in virtually every passing category besides in terms of interceptions thrown.

Granted, Favre played in 35 more games then Elway, but something has to be said for longevity.

Back to the interceptions.

At quick glance, you'd imagine that Brett was far ahead of Elway in the interceptions department but that's not quite the case.

Brett Favre managed to throw an interception in .033 percent of his passes.

John Elway managed to throw an interception in .030 percent of his passes.

That means that if John Elway had thrown as many passes as Brett Favre, he would have thrown a total of 279 interceptions in his career.

Elway lost 3 sb too

Yeah, I agree, Rondo ... that's been Brett's biggest handicap ... he just seems to choke at the biggest moments, ro right when you think he's got it all figured out. I am amazed at how he's playing for his age, but Elway was better, IMO. (TP)

But the ratio of pass to pick is very close.

Brett Favre managed to throw an interception in .033 percent of his passes.

John Elway managed to throw an interception in .030 percent of his passes.

Favre gets punished for it where Elway doesn't. People can argue all day about who is better, but it will always come down to opinion. I like the debat though, these sort of discussions are one of the best things about being a fan.

IMO, Elway was the better quarterback between the two.

The guy could do it with his arm or his feet.  One of the best scramblers of all time and he could create when things broke down. He had an absolute cannon for an arm too. In his prime, there was no one better running the two minute drill.  Two of his SB losses were against two teams of the ages ('86 Giants & '89 49ers).  Daunting tasks.  He made up for it big time at the end of his career.

One of the best I've ever saw.

There's that whole Super Bowl XXXII thing too when he beat Favre on the biggest stage.

Also:

Favre

491 TDs, 316 Int (1.55 TDs per Int)

Elway

300 TDs, 226 Int  (1.33 TDs per Int)

Favre's ratio is much, much better.

Any ratios of players that wished Elway wasnt on their team?  And while its fair to say Favre has more TD's and such.  Their personalities off the field make it much easier to hold things against Favre.

Nick in all fairness, Manning has had the same offensive coordinator his entire career.  If he wasnt comfortable enough with the system to call plays by now I would be worried.  And while you are talking about players he has made look like all pros are you referring to Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark?  I mean comon, the guy has had talent around him his entire career.  Jermaine Wiggins,Dante Stallworth, David Givens, Deon Branch, David Patten, Jabar Gaffney and many others are all guys that Brady made look great and then went on to sign contracts elsewhere and not look nearly as good.

Until Moss and Welker got here the Talent level was not even close, and that isnt even arguable in my opinion.  The one thing that I think Brady has had all of his career that Manning only had for most of his career was a great pass catching back in Faulk.  Manning had Edge untill he left, but that role hasnt been replaced in their offense since.

And the patriots were still a dropped Caldwell pass in the endzone from preventing Manning from getting a superbowl rign.
I just don't look at it the same way. I refuse to look at Superbowl rings as the most important way to judge any player in the league as football, more than any other in sports, is a team reliant game. Some of the very very best players ever to play in the NFL have never won a championship. John Hannah is widely considered the best offensive linemen ever. No ring. Marino is widely regarded as one of the 3-5 best quarterbacks ever, no ring. Bruce Smith is considered one of the best defensive lineman ever to breath, no ring. Barry Sanders, OJ Simpson, Anthony Munoz, Alan Page, Dick Lane, etc. I could go on for a while with a list of the all-time best players all-time in football that never saw a championship.

So I throw out the whole "Super Bowl" rings argument because that's a team stat.

Their career playoff stats are very similar with Manning having played 15 post season games and Brady 17:

QBRAT    ATT   COMP   YDS   COMP%   YDS/A   TD   INT

Manning     85.0       348    564     4208     61.7         7.5        22    17

Brady          88.0       372    595     3954     62.5         6.6        26    12

The biggest difference being the W-L record and number of rings. But it can be argued that Manning has been the better quarterback surrounded by the better offensive personnel but that Brady had been surrounded by the better overall team, specifically the better defense that Manning himself had to attempt to beat in order to get more post season wins.

I think we can all agree that Manning has better overall regular season stats in his career and that Manning's and Brady's best statistical seasons ever were almost mirror images of each other. Also Manning has had more 4th quarter comebacks than Brady has, see this article from Pro-football-reference.com:
