Sad news.  For me I have 3 major issues with the old refs:

1)  Superstar treatment
2)  Many of them try to "manage" a game, versus just calling it how it is on each play.
3)  Some of them are downright atrocious and the league has not published metrics for their performances, nor do they conduct additional training or correction.

I didn't have much of an issue with what the ref did in the Nate Robinson situation.  I can however see why the league would have a policy against that.

Unfortunately managing the game cannot be helped no matter what refs we have. I'm sure (with the free throws and foul calling going way up) after game 5 of the Celts Bulls series, the refs were ordered to keep things calm to prevent something from happening.

I can understand why it's done. The risk/reward of it is very high on the risk side. I as a fan don't like it however.

As for star treatment, it just happens. I thought the fouls called on the Hawks in the Hawks Cavs series were attrocious (if it wasn't for some free throws, Hawks would have one at least one game. The one called I believe at the end of game 3 against Horford was disgraceful). However being a fan, I do see some of the same calls come towards some of our players, but won't comment because, that's what we fans do.

I wonder if Dick Bavetta gets to take his crypt on the road in this new deal?

Forget Dick Bavetta's crypt, Ken Mauer probably has instructions for keeping his coffin in the arena the day before each game:

Sorry, but only the messiah gets more bogus calls than Paul Pierce.  It won't matter  who the  officials are.

Replacement officials are going to be under the thumb of Stern just like the current ones are.  The messiah will never travel, commit a foul, and will get fouled  by anybody in the same zip code.  Paul Pierce, Iverson, Carter, O'Grady, Anthony, Kobe, Nash, etc, will barely ever travel and will draw phantom fouls and phantom charges at ridiculously obvious rates that discredit the game.

Until attendance and interest declines, it's the way of the world no matter who the officials are.

So I decided to do some stats to see if the refs were really biased.

We are 8th in the league in foul differential at 0.9

Now I don't think this is a huge amount, considering we are more physical than most teams. I'd say there is very little bias there. We are also a slight negative (-0.4) in free throw attempts. Seems a fair correlation.

We are 11th in in the league in total FTA
Now this could be due to our slow pace, so I decided to adjust for pace. After that, we are actual 7th in the league for FTA total, way better than average.

So looking at stats, it is hard to see whether or not refs are biased against us. And I'm sure every team thinks refs are biased. And because (adjusted with pace) there isn't a huge difference in foul differential, I think we can conclude that refs make bad decisions sometimes. They do however make even bad decisions on both ends of the floor.

Note: There is however a big difference in FTA differential. This is possibly because some teams are better at drawing shooting fouls than others (Boston being one of them). Ironically however, the Spurs actually get the least amount of shooting fouls, though this has never seemed to hinder their performance (and is weird considering how many good players they have who like to drive to the basket).
I tped you for major effort, and it's amazing we do this well considering how bad refs must hate Tommy.

that said were you able to figure out how we do on flat out absurd calls?

How about timely calls like 4th qrt, playoffs, and OT?

Plus who do we get the calls against? If we get a ton against the Clippers and none against the Lakers that matters
