The source of all the Ray Allen trade ideas is posters' discontent with the way Ray played in the early part of the playoffs. His production during his first season here was also less than desirable. I think people need to realize that his poor play was often a result of being an odd man out of the offense. Only towards the latter part of last years playoffs did his role start to blend in with the program. He wasn't taking off balance three's all the time and working SOLELY off picks. In the Finals series, he was actually catching and shooting with ease and having no trouble creating his offense. You know, like the Ray Allen we've seen throughout his career, the Ray Allen who will be in the Hall of Fame one day.
As for trading him today, it would not make any sense. He is still franchise player caliber. With an expiring contract on top of that, he has value you just can't take for granted. I understand Celtics fans' concern with how our immediate future following the KG/Allen/Pierce era may bring us back to days of despair and agony. Yet we've come this far, and winning a title should be the first thing on our minds. Trading Ray would totally contradict the motive our organization has set out to accomplish this goal, even if "longer term" value is secured (supposedly).
