Boston/Houston trade idea

It's an interesting idea ... but I think both teams are better off not making this trade.

Who plays C? 


Celtics would no longer have the bulky body that plays great post defense in dealing with the likes of Howard and Shaq in the playoffs. 

I really don't want to see Wallace and KG having to defend those two in back to back series. 

Wallace and Davis can both handle Howard and Shaq pretty well, and Scola and Williams could also help out. 

I agree that it is a risky move, but which is more valuable to this team right now, Perk to battle with Howard and Shaq (even though both Davis and Wallace have proven they actually match up very well against guys like that), or having Battier to throw at Lebron, Carter, Lewis, Kobe, etc?  Honestly, I am not sure what the answer is.  But it might be a question Danny will be asking himself come trade deadline.

Don't forget his value in stepping in front of these player on the outside.  Something I expect Wallace to be able to do.  Something we did not see Davis do nearly as well. 

Interesting idea, but I question Battier's value in the playoffs.  Come playoff time, Pierce and Allen are both going to play close to 40 mpg.  Is it really worth jeopardizing the frontline to get a guy who is gonna play 15 mpg in the playoffs?

Interesting but, Battier is tad overrated, IMO and I don't want to trade the other cornerstone ( along with Rondo ) of the next decade.

So no I would stay put.

I guess I just don't see Perk as a cornerstone.  He is a very nice and valuable player on this team, and a great bargain salary.  But I don't think he is the type of player you build a team around.  And considering he is going to likely be paid  a LOT of money in two years (likely way more than his production is worth), I expect the C's to explore their options with him next summer, and maybe earlier.

So let me get this straight.  Right now he's underpaid but, in 2 years he'll be overpaid so we should look to trade him.  You have no idea if that's ever going to be case.  I doubt he'll ever make 10 million since he's not that good but you can win with him at Center.

That's why the team added Daniels.  He will allow those minutes to drop.  They can then sign Bruce Bowens and the minutes can drop to about 30 minutes a game in the regular season.


Get rid of Perk, KG and Wallace have to spend more time banging bodies with the real heavies during the season instead of Perk who is built to do it.

I think you get the better players overall - I think Battier is easily the best player in the deal and Scola might be better than Perk too - but the risk is far too great for a team with a short championship window to experiment with Wallace and KG as the only guys on our roster above 6'8".
