I don't see how anyone could be negative about this signing or the team in general.  Did anyone see how Daniels filled in for Dunleavey when he was hurt.  He was great on my fantasy team.  The main thing here is that we paid 2M for him and 6M on Wallace.  While the rest of the league is paying 11M for Ben Gordan and 8M for Charlie V we are getting quality players dirt cheap.  I am so excited, as long as the old guys haven't declined too much, we have just as good a chance to put up another banner as anyone.  As for Tony, I like him.  It's completely irrational and I can't defend it.  He was my favorite player for 2 weeks before he got hurt.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet.  The Pacers just recently signed Dahntay Jones at 4 years 11 mil.   Why not just re-sign Daniels at roughly the same price since he will be making less with us.  I think Daniels is an upgrade over Jones.   Makes you think well maybe there was something going on internally that the Pacers didn't like or that Daniels just really wanted to play for a winner.  I hope it's the latter.

To be honest, I don't know if he would have played for the Pacers for the same price. I have a feeling he gave the Celtics some sort of discount.

Aside from that, Daniels does not shoot 3's, and Jim o Briens offense is predicated on that. It's one of the reasons why Daniels eFG and FG are lower in Indiana than in Dallas.

Another reason why I think when he's on the Celtics and nobodies forcing him to shoot 3's and just let him use his drive and kick game, he will be much more effective.

Good point although Jones is not much of a 3 point shooter himself but maybe more of an outside shooter.  Also although I think Daniels is at the very least an adequate defender Jones is known for being a defensive player so possibly they were looking to make more of an emphasis there.

I hope it's just the case that he really wants to come here and take a discount.   I haven't heard whispers of any other team going after him and there are still playoff caliber teams with at least part of their MLE that could offer more than we could.  The times I saw him play last year he played really well.

I wasn't trying to be negative I was just curious if anyone knew why the Pacers weren't more aggressive in re-signing him or why I didn't hear of any other teams going after him.

Anyone still on the market would be an improved Tony Allen.  Thankfully, barring injuries, Tony Allen is a cap figure and nothing more at this point.

This is my favorite part about Daniels from his Wikipedia page (through Google you can find other links to sites like Flickr with similar comments):

Quote
Daniels is noted for having several tattoos inscribed on different parts of his body. The tattoos range from a detailed map of Florida that covers his entire back, a caricature of a man blowing his head with a shotgun on his lower right arm, and Chinese characters on his other arm which were apparently intended to represent his initials, but translate to English as "healthy woman roof".[1]
God bless and good night!

Yeah, I think there is a contender discount. Plus there is the pride issue of having been cut from a lottery team... it would probably feel weird to return to that team at 1/2 price or less.

Meanwhile, like Posey, he can get more exposure playing for the C's.

His turnover rate is lower than Tony's, despite his usage being higher. I think Daniels has a better feel for the game than Tony.

OK DL, I disagree with you on this, so you start a flame war on something entirely unrelated.  Way to go.
God bless and good night!

Tony Allen is a moron on and off the court.  His inability to not turn the ball over is a major issue AND the primary way that Daniels is differentiated.

He is the not the 20 PER guy we saw as a rookie, but a 13 PER guy as a backup is a nice thing to have AND he was the best available FA on the market at that dollar figure.

im not starting a "flame war".  i made a sarcastic remark (notice the winking smiley face), which playfully poked fun at ur judgement.  u said daniels is as mentally challenged as TA.  to me, thats crazy, so i made the comment about lbj.

but if you want to stay on track about ur realistic judgement of TA and his ability, i dug this gem up:

Tony Allen's career ends with the Celtics' season.

heh?

I will forever give up posting on any sports related blog if Tony Allen has an NBA contract next year.

and for the record i hate everything about TA's game....but realistically speaking, he would get a contract from someone.

also for the record, everyone makes mistakes in their judgment on these boards.  i remember saying i preferred marcus williams over rondo, lol

Perhaps.  But the thing is, a non-braindead Tony Allen is a hell of an NBA player.
