Hinrich isn't really that much better than what they have though, which is the problem and his contract is pretty big. I don't see the Blazers going after Hinrich at all. The free agents people constantly mention the C's going after, would make sense for the Blazers, you know Grant Hill, Antonio McDyess, etc. Or a package of some of their younger players for an upgrade in the starting five, ala the move for Ray Allen would make sense. Hinrich isn't much of an upgrade and his contract is problematic.
Well, obviously we think very differently about Blake, so that is going to make this a tough argument for either to budge on.
I personally think Hinrich is MUCH better than Blake. I put Hinrich in the same category as guys like Andre Miller or Mike Bibby, and TJ Ford (when he can get on the floor). He is not a top tier PG, but is probably a top 10-15 starting PG in the league, who may not be flashy like Chris Paul or Deron Williams, but knows how to lead a team, and turn a mediocre team into a winner.
Of course the other course of action for Portland could be to just try to sign Andre Miller as a FA, and hope he is the missing piece.
the following are all better than hinrich at the present moment (in no particular order)

Hinrich is just an ok player at pretty much everything, but he excels at nothing. He is a competant shooter, defender, passer, rebounder, etc., but he can never take a game over at either end of the floor and can never be anything more than the 4th best player on a championship team (unless he is the third best player on a team with Lebron and Bosh, or something like that).
I think you sell him short and over value some others.
First, Mo Williams isn't a PG, he's a 2 guard that's too small to play that position so he plays a combo guard position. He's as much a PG as Eddie House.
Second, given their age and declining games, I'd take Hinrich over Baron Davis, Jason Kidd and Mike Bibby right now. At least he can still play defense where those guys are revolving doors.
Third, the only guy you have on his level I would take over him would be TJ Ford but since TJ can't seem to play more than a handful of games without getting hurt, I would pass on him too.
Lastly, the only guys in the up and comers that I would want over Hinrich are Westbrook and Sessions. The rest are severely over rated or will, IMHO, just never develop they way some think they will.
So, overall, I agree with Chris' assessment that Hinrich is in the 10-15 top PGs, probably around 13 or 14.
