I don't know that the money would quite work but let's say Lillard tells Portland he'sdone and agrees to a trade. Who says no:

Boston sends Marcus Smart to Philly; Al Horford, Romero Langford, and two 1st rounders, to Portland
Philly sends Ben Simmons to Boston; Matisse Thybulle, and one 1st rounder to Portland
Portland sends Lillard to Philly

Philly is essentially swapping Simmons & Thybulle for Lillard and a 1st for Smart. Portland is getting three 1sts and two prospects.

For Boston, Horford isn't part of the plan longterm and the upgrade of Smart to Simmons is undeniable. Boston can also throw in one of the overseas stashed guards.

I don't see the need for Boston in that trade
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

It'll come down to whether Portland wants Ben Simmons or not. Simmons is a polarizing player. Some folks would love to have him on their team and some folks do not rate him at all because of his high paycheck and inability to make a jump-shot.

If they want Ben Simmons, there is no need for Boston.

If they do not want Ben Simmons, then a package of multiple picks is an attractive alternative.

For sure. I'd love to have Simmons here. I'd definitely give up a few firsts to get him.

I wonder though, if it is our firsts that are getting Lillard ... why choose Ben Simmons over Lillard? I'd rather have Lillard. Cut Philly out of the deal and get Lillard instead. Give up an extra first and/or prospect and get Lillard.

We'd likely have to give up Rob Williams anyway with Ben Simmons coming here since neither guy can make a jump-shot so Rob Williams could be the piece to make the deal work.

You'd need Simmons as the 1 in in the 1 in 4 out setup. Tatum and Brown give them high level shooters. Need two more shooters to make it work. Likely a jump-shooting center so that Simmons can stay at PF rather than small ball five.

I like Simmons a lot in that type of setup next to Jaylen and Tatum. Simmons' rebounding & defense would be a great addition to the team. His speed, transition offense, interior scoring and passing in the halfcourt would help make this team more dynamic & better on offense too.

My thinking here is Portland is 13-22 now. If Lillard decides he wants out, they might decide to simply rebuild and look for assets for the future. If that were the case, I don't think they'd be interested in Simmons.

And I actually think he fits perfectly with the J's. A big, versatile defender who can take the playmaking burden off Jaylen (who hasn't shown much of an aptitude for it yet) but who wants to pass the ball and get them both points.

I actually like Simmons and think he’s fit well with the Jay’s as well. My issue with him is his price tag. He makes a lot of money and he has some glaring flaws. I know he’s be 3rd banana here but he’s also be the highest paid player too.
