All I know is, the Nets got Harden and didn’t have to give up Kyrie or KD. No one can with a straight face say Lilliard is way better than Harden.
of course no one could because Harden is a significantly better player than Lillard, but the Celtics don't have any of the other Nets assets.  There is no Caris Levert or Jarrett Allen on this team.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Houston didn’t even want Levert or Allen, so I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at.

I know, right? HOU evidently wanted Kurucs, Exum, Olynyk, and Bradley. If that's not the worst haul for a top 5 player, I don't know what is. Of course they got all of the picks, but yikes!

This is exactly correct. Allen couldn't start over an aging DeAndre Jordan and Lavert has been more injury-prone than Rob Williams. That's the core of the trade offer for Harden?

It depends on if another team is desperate enough and/or what the Blazers think of the Celtics assets. The Pritchard-Oregon connection could raise his value a little bit, but we'd need to see that the Blazers and/or Billups love a player the Celtics have.

I think I read somewhere that Lillard in 2025 will have a player option for greater than 50M  :o

I mean, if they make the trade then fine, I love Lillard as a player and maybe they will try to contend. But if it costs you Jaylen which it probably would then I think it's not worth it. All you're doing is maybe winning a few extra regular season games and instead of losing in 5 to BKN you're probably losing to BKN/MIL in 6 games instead.

Also Kemba was considered "iron man" when coming here then got hurt a ton. If we suffer the same fate with Lillard then we're big-time screwed. Lillard just starts a 4/196M contract this upcoming season

this is reason 1B I'd be reluctant to trade for him.  that contract is a franchise killer in terms of sucking up the money needed to pay other good players that you need to acquire.

reason 1A is that the point of acquiring Lillard would be to ADD him to the J's, not replace one of them.

Which was an expiring Victor Oladipo whom they got virtually nothing for when they moved him to Miami, and a protected 2022 pick?  The Celtics can offer a useless expiring (Thompson) and a center on the last year of his rookie deal that you can either keep or flip for a late 1st.  Those are not special assets.

I think they would strongly consider a package revolved around Brown. Add in a couple players and picks, that may get it done.

A 24yo all-star who can be elite on both ends is a hard offer to beat. We can maybe trade for a first to throw in, along with future firsts/swaps.

Dame and Tatum would be nasty. Add in Smart and Horford, we may have something brewing. Use exceptions and find ring-chasers to fill out the roster.
