Howard on Franz Wagner announcement tp declare for the draft
Shortly after the announcement was made public, head coach Juwan Howard expressed some high praise for Wagner via his twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

"All-In, Accountability, Discipline, Trust, Sacrifice and most of all Family! You embody each of these values down to your core I want to THANK YOU for all you have done for me, and for us. This next step is going to be a wonderful & beautiful journey! Enjoy it! Go Blue!"

An ex-player would have more gravitas.

Come again

So you wouldnt mind the idea of hiring Howard?

Nope. Howard would be a good pick but he seems set where he is.

The other issue is... would he be passionate to coach the Celtics. Brad stated today.. that, that is very important

Not sure how many coaches, candidates.. or former coaches are passionate to coach the Celts

Maybe Carlisle if he leaves. Or Cassell

Scal when asked if he would coach again... he said no. It is a hard job

Question: That reminds me of a great video you did a while ago for Yahoo Sports where you looked at the biggest “what ifs” in NBA history. Would you ever try coaching again or are you planning to stick to media and broadcasting going forward?

SCAL: I don’t think I could do the coaching again. First of all, before people in the media kill coaches and write stuff, they should really understand what coaches go through and understand that they watch hours and hours of film. There are people who watch a game live and then have all these comments, but some of the smartest basketball minds in the world will watch the game two or three times before commenting on it. It’s an incredible amount of work and you’re married to the emotions of a player. Some of the players are great, but some are jaded. You have to deal with the jealousy between players. Your whole life ends up being this emotional roller-coaster and it’s not even your emotions, it’s everybody else’s emotions. Whether you’re talking about coaches or executives, a lot of crazy stuff goes on.

My life is great. I have a radio show and I do [color commentary] for Celtics games. I know what my schedule is going to look like so I can plan things out with my wife and three kids. I can ask for a day off to expand a vacation (it’s 82 games, but my company will give me a game off to spend a few extra days with my family after the All-Star break, for instance). It’s just a much better life for me. I wouldn’t say it’s for everybody because not everybody is good at [broadcasting]. But for me, it’s a more sustainable, happy life – even though I do miss being around the game, being around the guys. But it takes so much to be a great coach.

Plenty of guys can be passionate about coaching the team without being former Celtics.

Chauncy pulls Jackson aside for reluctance to pass

I like this...

https://youtu.be/EyllwGJNEeU

Chauncey would be my favorite choice for now.  I want a guy who will hold all the players accountable.  That 2004 Piston team played so well together.  He gets what it takes, especially when you don't have a couple of top 5 players.

This is where I'm at too. Listening to the Russillo podcast with Mc Mullen, Simmons and KOC yesterday they had some great stories about him too. They all agreed he had a presence about him, very cerebral and great leadership

As spotted on TrueHoop, here's an interesting account from the Boston Globe about how Kevin Garnett consulted with close friends Tyronn Lue and Billups about his future:

"I talked to KG and it was tough at first because he's so loyal to Minnesota, his family, friends, and the fans," said Lue, who was spotted at an LA tennis tournament with Garnett July 20. "All he knew was Minnesota for the last 12 years. I thought Boston would be a great situation, a perfect situation with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. I thought automatically they'd be in the Eastern Conference finals with KG. He thought about it and asked, 'You think so?' I said, 'Yeah.'

"Then, Chauncey came out and said, 'You have to take the best thing for you and that's playing in Boston, even though we'd be in the same conference and play four times a year.' We definitely convinced him to choose Boston because two great players were already in place. Adding KG and being in the Eastern Conference, it'd be easier to win. [...]

Back in Los Angeles a few days later, Garnett sought the counsel of his best friends, Detroit's Chauncey Billups and Atlanta's Tyronn Lue. Garnett has an offseason home in Malibu, Calif., Billups was in LA for an Adidas photo shoot with Garnett. Lue spends about a month with Garnett in Malibu every summer, though he was in the city to have his right knee scoped July 17 by the Lakers' team doctor.

The trio discussed the teams interested in Garnett -- Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, the Lakers, and Phoenix -- and which presented the best scenario for the 10-time All-Star. Billups and Lue helped convince Garnett that Boston would be a good place to play, recognizing what the power forward could add to a mix that already included Pierce and Allen.

In a recent interview with his former teammate on ESPN’s Jalen & Jacoby, Juwan Howard spoke on his coaching future and if he had any interest in returning to the NBA. And Howard emphatically stated that his heart is in Ann Arbor and that he has no plans on leaving the Michigan sideline anytime soon.

“I’m in Ann Arbor to stay, baby. I love Michigan, I love my job and I’m enjoying it and this experience. I’m also looking forward to growing each and every year and developing these young men to become the best versions of themselves as a student-athlete.

“This is a dream job for me. I think my passion last year showed how much I appreciate being in this position.

“The NBA, it’s a beautiful game. They have great coaches there, amazing, talented players, a beautiful brand. But I enjoyed that experience for 25 years, 19 as a player and six as a coach. I’m going to stay and keep growing with Michigan. Go Blue.”

It may all be true, but he has to say that to recruit.
