In the past couple of days, I've seen way too many people insisting that it would take #30 or another first to dump Poirier's contract, which is completely insane.

This deal is right in line with what you should expect, if anything I'm surprised we didn't throw in a protected 2nd going the other way, too

Yeah, I saw the same thing on other boards, as well. People were casually throwing the #30 out there as par for the course in getting rid of Poirier and I was like ??? I'm glad they were wrong. Good ending for all...especially Vincent who earned himself a cool $5M for simply being born really tall.

How much cash.... was it pretty much his contract amount, and if that is the case why does this not violate the salary cap.

It’s not my money but how couldn’t they attach him to the pick they sent to Memphis ?? What’s wrong with Danny

They were never gonna get rid of him without attaching the cash. Adding him to the Memphis deal would have meant adding the cash, too

Yeah it's more a matter of who was willing to eat up a roster spot.

I highly doubt they keep him (I mean, they could, but...). That's why we sent cash. When they cut him, we will have already sent the cash to pay him w/o it affecting our salary cap. OKC did us a small favor for sure, but they aren't stuck with him or anything.

Not even that, just the cap space. The Thunder could cut him and lose nothing in the process (except a 2nd that won't convey anyway)

I'm bitter.

My understanding is that Poirier's ~2.6 million will still count toward OKC's cap number. But the Celtics will send that much over to the organization so that they're basically paying for his salary. And OKC's extremely (likely Top 55) protected pick will never find it's way here, so it's allowed under the CBA.

Someone smarter can correct me if I'm wrong.

Enough to cover his salary, probably a little bit more for the trouble.

How would that be violating the salary cap?

We now will have a $2.5 million trade exception.  That’s not really large enough to be super useful in most cases, but you never know I guess.

Because Cs would be paying out is contract why should that not count against the Cs cap? Cs send him to OKC but pay for his contract anyway.
