When Brown tries to do too much he becomes very average. This is my fear this season.

The ball stops moving of offense when it hits his hands and he becomes a black hole settling for bad shots.

He tries to be the primary ball handler and turns it over.

Yeah, I'm confused by what JB is talking about.  We've seen the offense run through him.  Joe tries to stagger JT's and JB's minutes, with JB being the primary offensive engine when he's out there without Tatum.

JB has been very good, but I'm skeptical that there's a higher level.  I share the concern that you do, which is that he'll try too hard and force things.

Historic Draft / Re: Any interest in a (historical) fantasy draft?
« Last post by smokeablount on Yesterday at 11:14:11 AM »
Edit- Commissioner Doofus needs to check his PMs- Dons and CFF are in and we have 10!

Now we need to discuss the logistics beyond eligible player seasons between *EDIT* 2004-05 and this most recent season.

Does anyone who already signed on have an issue drafting between 10am-noon ET for our international audience? For later round picks could we do double duty, between 10-12 and 1-3?

Do we need 10 minutes for each spot or 5 mins? 10 mins puts us at from like 10-11:45am or 10:15-noon. Would we do 10 minutes for starters and 5 minutes for bench players, and draft twice as fast for the back half of our teams?

Let me know what you think. Any other logistics to discuss?

Celtics Talk / Re: How would you like to see the team approach 2026-27?

A lot of people have said 2027 is the year they can start to really challenge. I honestly think in 2027 we will see the J's broken up with JB sent out.

As for next season:

Core: JT, JB, White, PP, Hauser, Dame (hopefully), Baylor, Hugo

Gone: Walsh, Garza (maybe), Minott, Davison, Queta, Simons, Niang and Tillman

Still will need a functional front court but the goal should be to challenge in a still weak East..

-Cavs will be shedding pieces like the Cs did after this upcoming season. They will not be a factor
-Knicks will be older and have a lame duck coach
-Pacers will have no Turner and will have Hali back after Achillies
-Bucks I am not sure what they will do being in cap hell

in 2026 with some additions, Boston should be the best team in the East.

Orlando is going to be a problem in the East

It is a fair debate as to whether a 2026-27 team built around Tatum, Brown, and White is good enough.  I think it is, far better than the alternative of a team built around rookies and future draft picks.

I look at is as having about $57M to spend in 2026-27.  That accounts for Simons and Niang (about $36M in contracts) and the fact that the 2nd apron is expected to go up about 10% (about $21M).  We will also have a decent draft pick to use or trade.  Niang and Simons could be traded for players or TPE.  We have the Porzingis TPE until Jul 7, 2027.

What is the $57 million based upon?

Spotrac has us as $41.7 million under the second apron in 2026-27.

Game Threads / Re: Celtics (2-0) vs Heat (0-2) SL Game #3 7/14/25

I am not sure what the point is in Scheierman even being here. He clearly is not able to create his own offense. We now know that. What else is there for us to learn from him playing here? What is there for him to learn by playing there?

Feels like a waste of time at this point. I'd send him home. No need to play any further. Play the other guys. See if they have anything to offer.

To work on his defense.

Hugo started out 0-7 FGA. Finished 3-5 FGA. Kept playing. 3-12 overall but kept trying. Did not give up.

1-7 on his threes. A few stood out. The first one was an offensive rebound I think it was and then he dribbled out, rather than resetting the offense he got trigger happy and took a quick 3 from the wing. Missed. Silly shot. Then he took 2 in transition (catch and shoots, not off dribble). The first one he rushed without getting his feet set. The second one he didn't set up his feet properly on the catch, again off balance, missed both. The one he made was a simple catch and shoot from the wing where his feet was set. His shot looked much better that time. That is 4 of the 7 threes. Did not notice the other ones. Clear need to work on his footwork in stepping into 3s. Cut out off the dribble 3s. Reduce his attempts of 3s to where his feet are set. That will help his shooting percentages.

I liked a few of his drives. Used his body well taking it hard to the rim. Got to the FT line. Got to the rim for a finish. Had another one where he was stripped on a floater. He also had some basic drives and simple drive and kicks. Didn't create anything but kept the ball moving. Gave the offense some motion. Connected the play.

Had a number of turnovers today. 1st one made a mistake and dribbled into a trap. 2nd one a sloppy slick ball-handling move which he didn't pull of. 3rd one he got stripped on a drive as he was shooting. Not too bad. A 4th one he got stripped in transition, from behind I think, dribbling in too much traffic. Not sure about the other 2 turnovers. 6 turnovers overall.

10pts 7reb 3ast on 3-12 FGA 3-4 FTA 6 turnovers

This seems to add up to a young (19 years old) player who is not quite ready for the NBA.  I was hoping he would go along with being stashed in Europe for at least 1 season. Scheierman is 24, will be 25 by the start of the season.

Why are they rushing Hugo Gonzalez?  I guess if he stays in Europe but doesn't play much, that doesn't do much good but I don't think this season on the Celtics will be all that good for his development either.

My guess is that they really like him as a player, but don't like the way he's being handled in Spain.  So, they want him under the direction of the Celtics organization's coaches, trainers, etc.

i could not watch the game, so please tell me about walsh's ejection. what lead to it? thanks.

It wasn't much of anything.  Walsh was a little aggressive playing defense, it caused the Heat player to sprawl out of bounds (directly into where Stevens was sitting, haha).  The Heat player got up and charged Walsh, and Walsh pushed him.

He was given a tech, which was his second of the game.  It wasn't due to a flagrant or for fighting or anything like that.

Around the NBA / Re: Offseason Thread

Don't think he'll be missed, but, Drew Peterson to the Hornets.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/celtics-free-agent-signs-with-charlotte-hornets/ar-AA1IChbr?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=0e822de83e8f48f08b1ad893f1d67dc6&ei=15

Peterson will be 26 in November.  Glad to see he got another 2-way so that he can hang around the edges of the NBA for another season, but he is running out of real estate.

I am pretty happy with the current BOS 2-ways:

Max Shulga  (23)
Miles Norris  (25)
Amari Williams  (23)

None of them are real young.  They will all likely see time on the team filling in for injured players.

I liked having Peterson on a two-way deal, because he was a guy that could at least play as an emergency fill-in without embarrassing himself.

I'm less sure about any of the other three.
