It's just revisionist history.

How were we getting Durant?  And, how are we keeping JT in an AD trade?

If Kyrie and AD wanted it to happen, we could have had:

Horford
Davis
Hayward
Brown
Kyrie

In that case, Smart and Tatum were traded for AD.  Maybe Hayward and Brown get moved for Durant in this alternative universe, with KD having to cooperate to force a trade?

Whether true or not that?s a crazy lineup to think about back then. Not sure how KD gets to Boston from GSW or via FA but if it was possible that would have been wild.

But considering all of their personalities (AD seems fine, it?s the other two), I?d prefer this team 10/10.

Since this was around February of 2019, we probably may have 3peated between 2019-2021 (if KD and AD injuries do not happen).

Kyrie
Buyout candidate/Durant
Durant/Buyout candidate
Davis
Horford

Ofc the cost to unload our core guys would be huge including Smart, Hayward, Brown, and Tatum.

But yeah that 2019 season was a drag. On one hand we had young Jays and Hayward. On the other hand we could've potentially had a superteam with generational talent players. Wonder if Stevens could've kept those egos in check tho

Given he couldn't with 2 less stars, I suspect the answer is no. Team of champions vs a champion team and all that.

I suspect this is mostly Kyrie trying to rewrite history,. I don't see how the C's were supposed to get BOTH Davis and Durant without giving up BOTH Brown and Tatum, and maybe not even then.

Kyrie screwed the franchise, and now he's trying to make it seem like it was more of a mutual parting then a betrayal.

There was a ton of smoke around this at the time. Would have been cool, but Irving is one to talk about not being ready to be in trade rumors. He was a child back then. Seems to have matured the last couple years though.

As a reminder:

1) AD?s father caused a stir by saying AD should never play in Boston because we traded IT for Kyrie.  http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25902808/anthony-davis-sr-want-son-boston-cites-treatment-isaiah-thomas

2) Boston was prohibited from trading for AD due to salary cap reasons (I forget the details at this point, but I think it was that Kyrie and AD were both on designated rookie extensions) until July 2019, by which point Kyrie had already stopped returning Ainge?s phone calls.

That is all.

I'm guessing Kyrie is conflating Boston being one of the teams going after KD in 2016 and either not remembering things right or trying to spin the truth for some reason.

Kyrie is just trying to save face. His last playoff game vs Milwaukee will never be forgotten. He was just throwing shots with no care in the world.

He's definitely found a new home in Dallas and is thriving there. But sorry, a lot of what he says about the Celtics to me is BS. This is a guy who last year during the Finals even said basically that "Boston isn't for everyone", and sounded like he was making excuses for himself. Then even the Nets tenure, the way he behaved including "saging the Garden" and stomping on Lucky.

And also, the fact that it sounds like in March 2019 he already knew he was leaving and quietly informed this to Ainge as well in-season.

F-him  >:(

And btw, I know Dallas still looks elite on paper and maybe AD helps them, but if they have a short playoff run don't be surprised if this prick also decides to demand a trade in the offseason and maybe even try to join Lebron and Doncic. This phony. He says more of the "right things" now than before but he's not fooling me. Guy is no leader either.

For #2, I think it had something to do with the Rose Rule. Both players had signed contract extensions.

As for #1, pretty ironic now that AD's former team betrayed him and sent him packing to Dallas under the shadows, no questions asked lol. But at least he got a (bubble) ring out of that tenure.
