In Perk's defense (somewhat anyway) when you're on a panel of talking heads, it's hard to stand out so I think he tries to be outrageous with some of his takes. But I also think the longer you do something like that, your lack of depth shows up - and I think Perk suffers from that a bit. It doesn't help that the ESPN studio show is the world's worst. They still haven't figured out how to get that right.

As far as the NBC Boston show goes, I think Eddie House may have taken Perk's 'minutes'.

Love Perk. I don't understand the criticism of him. He is allowed criticize the Celtics. He is allowed to be dubious about their players.

As an analyst, he is a hot takes guy. He is open in saying he says controversial statements in order to generate clicks. He is in the generate clicks / get eyeballs business. Not the basketball analysis business. He understands this and acts accordingly.

He is not someone you go to for smart well reasoned analysis. He is someone you go to for shock value / hot takes. He is good at that. That is why he is doing so well at ESPN. Why they keep giving him more air time. He generates feedback / interaction. That is his job.

I haven't seen Perk's negative Celtics takes on ESPN as I don't watch much ESPN and avoid pregame/halftime/postgame shows.  I liked watching him on the local broadcast - I thought he was OK; entertaining.  I don't really care that much if he has some negative Celtics takes.  Lord knows, there are plenty of negative Celtics takes from our brothers and sisters on CStrong.    Actually, probably worse on CStrong given that I doubt Perk has called players/coaches morons, idiots, metnally weak, incompetent, etc.  Perk is paid to spark interest and if he's doing that, what's the harm?   The article didn't say Perk was banned just a suggestion - offered by Scal - that Perk might not be as welcome as others.  No big deal.
One of his takes was that if you put Joe?s brain in a bird the bird would start flying backwards. 😉

Well in that case I guess he has called Joe an idiot. Still, no different than posters.

I?m fairly sure that there are some posters here who would be banned from team facilities for their comment history.   ;)

I find it funny that people around here are critical of Perk when the comments that supposedly got him 'banned' were about Mazulla.

People have been bashing Mazulla on this board for over two years now. Should those who had be banished from attending games or the parade as well?

Perk is a ESPN talking head and was on 2 other NBA teams after the Celtics, not sure why he needs to bleed green to remain in the fraternity.

To me, it?s not the criticism of the Celts; you need to be impartial when you?re part of the national media; but Perk has taken it upon himself to come up with the ridiculous takes for purposes of clicks; I?m sure it?s helping his career, but when he?s making things personal with his bashing, he can?t be surprised if he?s going to ruffle feathers

Perk's history of insipid commentary is hardly limited to the Celtics, though.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much--the wheel, New York, wars and so on--whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man--for precisely the same reason.

People can correct me, but I don?t think it?s his job to be impartial. I think it?s his job to get clicks. If he?s non-controversial, he doesn?t attract any attention and attracting attention is his job. When Perk explains his ?birdbrain? comment he describes it as being one side of a two-headed coin where sometimes Joe is brilliant and sometimes Joe is dumb.  As a 35yo first time head coach wouldn?t making mistakes be expected?  I really have no problem with Perk. I like him.

You can, but based on what I?ve seen of Perk I find him interesting to listen to regardless of motive.  And since what he does is entertainment and not something that is all that important, I?m good with it.

Scal said he texted Perk and invited him on his show to clear the air. Scal said he got no response to his text of any kind. Just silence.

I'm sure he see's the 18m per year offer SAS got from ESPN and feels if I just spout nonsense like SAS maybe I'll get paid too.  Perkins never made more then 9m in a season in the NBA.  ESPN seems to love having guys like Perk who will start controversy even if they are wrong like Perk has been about the C's.  I'm sure it increases viewership.

I don't expect Perk to be a Homer like Paul Pierce is but I'd rather a homer then a sellout.  Perk can turn in his shamrock card if it hasn't already been taken.

For $18 million per year, I'd become a full-on Lakers schill, bashing the Celts at every opportunity.  Nobody needs to know who I'm actually rooting for.

Good. He's excommunicado.

Lock him out forever.

We're fans, not tv personalities who are there to provide unbiased commentary. He's a former player and more is expected out of him.

Go online and bash your former boss multiple times. Bash the current employees as well. After work gets back to them, ask if you can be invited to the next retirement ceremony or company picnic.
Softened on Joe.
