Yeah. Tatum's ceiling is a primary scorer. Brown is more of a scottie pippen role type. But I'd rather keep Brown because of the team fit.

Which assistant coach observed this?

Eastern Conference assistant coach: "Tatum has been a surprise for how he has been defensively. I think he has gotten better this year. He has a great wingspan, and I think struggling offensively, I think that maybe pushed him to give more effort defensively. He can guard 2-through-4, and he can clog passing lanes. He is a good help defender. He's never going to be elite defensively, but he is a positive on that end."

I didn't really see that aspect of growth to JT's game this season.

Yeah I’d rather keep Brown too, but mainly because Tatum’s development isn’t on our timeline. If we didn’t have Kyrie, Hayward AND Horford, maybe. But we’re ready to contend now and Tatum isn’t ready to lead a team there (and also, I don’t know if he will significantly exceed any of our “vet all stars”).

Seeing the opposite of what I see

Brown has a better motor. and a better body for the positions he plays.

Tatum is all about smooth, effortless and finesse...soft.

Tatum has more natural talent and a higher ceiling, but Brown seems to have a higher motor, and imo that counts for a lot. He's been given a new role every year and found a way to adjust to it (it took a while this season, but he got there), whereas we still have serious questions about Tatum's willingness to adjust his game to fit the other pieces on the team.

If Kyrie stays and Ainge commits to building the team around him, we should trade Tatum. Those two are both iso scorers who won't mesh well together unless Tatum develops an effective off-ball motion/catch-and-shoot game the way Jaylen has, and I'm not sure he's willing to do that, given the mentality we've seen from him so far. Brown is a much better complementary scorer alongside Kyrie.

If Kyrie walks, the question of which Jay to keep becomes more complicated. But in the end, it's about who New Orleans wants more.

Some of the comments in the article show that whoever these people are haven’t been watching the Celtics this season. Like, Tatum made strides defensively this year, and Brown is lacking a mean streak. Um, no on both counts.

I didn't really see that aspect of growth to JT's game this season.

They were a better team with Tatum on the floor than with Brown, and most people believe Tatum regressed offensively, so he had to be doing something right.

I'm glad they haven't because they would demand Jaylen instead.

Seems that this was written before it came out that the Celtics had concerns with Tatum. The article seems to paint a much rosier picture of Tatum that most who watched Tatum this year wouldn't agree with.

Tatum got better defensively this year? [dang], as a whole I think Kyrie played better defense than Tatum this year. Jayson regressed on that end for sure.

Jayson Tatum wasn't a good defensive player this year. These eyes saw bucket after bucket because Turnstyle Tatum was out of position or was a step late. He is definitely not a positive on that end.

I think the conversation is fun. A year ago most would pick Tatum. I like Tatum's potential slightly more than Brown's, mostly because its a scoring league. We are fortunate to have two young wings that should carry value on the trade market.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Or, Tatum shared most of his minutes with starters and Brown was surrounded by bench players?

Let the Pelicans choose.

What's important is the Celts get Anthony Davis for Brown or Tatum, but not both.
