what a load of propaganda and fake news he wrote

What privilege? Hes a minority in the NBA. Jeremy lin insinuated he was discriminated against during the draft process because he wasn't black. White privilege is a myth

During the draft process... You realize the vast majority of NBA executives - the people who make decisions around draft time - are white men, right? Lin said he was discriminated because he was Asian, not because he wasn't black. Nice attempt, though.

Majority of NBA owners are white, and Lin went undrafted despite decent numbers at Harvard; simply because he was Asian.

He has also been called many racist degregoratory names on road games. New York even made that distratous headline, "A Chink in the Armor," when Linsanity was happening against Kobe Byrant.
"I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies and hypotheses
Can't define how I be dropping these mockeries."

Kyle Korver wrote his first article for The Players Tribute today.  It's called Privileged and talks about racism in America.  https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/kyle-korver-utah-jazz-nba

Read, then discuss.

I'm listening.

I read the article, and I feel a little sad for Korver. So much guilt, so much trying to fit in and to appease others, for no reason other than his skin. This is the nonsense so many people are buying into.

Even setting aside the race issue, it's messed up to hear that a cop broke your co-worker's leg for no reason and the first thought that you have is "Well why was he out so late?"

I liked the article. They are Korver's thoughts on the issue which are different than mine but somewhat in line. I did like some of his takes.

Quote
I have to continue to educate myself on the history of racism in America.
I think this is a tremendous idea for all Americans.

I have to listen. I’ll say it again, because it’s that important. I have to listen.
Man would this be a better world if people just took the time to listen and contemplate what they are being told rather than just talking over others. Good stuff.

Quote
We all have to hold each other accountable.
Completely agree.

But as disgraceful as it is that we have to deal with racist hecklers in NBA arenas in 2019? The truth is, you could argue that that kind of racism is “easier” to deal with.

Because at least in those cases, the racism is loud and clear. There’s no ambiguity — not in the act itself, and thankfully not in the response: we throw the guy out of the building, and then we ban him for life.

But in many ways the more dangerous form of racism isn’t that loud and stupid kind. It isn’t the kind that announces itself when it walks into the arena. It’s the quiet and subtle kind. The kind that almost hides itself in plain view. It’s the person who does and says all the “right” things in public: They’re perfectly friendly when they meet a person of color. They’re very polite. But in private? Well….. they sort of wish that everyone would stop making everything “about race” all the time.
I liked this a lot and think it spot on.

So, again. Interesting article. Don't agree with some of Korver's thoughts and words but found some that rang out to me and am glad he wrote them.

It's safe to assume that Korver struggles to relate to the majority of NBA players regardless of race.  His upbringing is very different than most people I know, let alone the average NBA player.  His intentions might be in the right place but it sounds like he's full of self pity.

If anything, Korver should devote his time and money towards helping those who are underprivileged across all races.  Hopefully it doesn't just end with social commentary on the players tribune.  Focus on helping individuals instead of grouping people together.

For the record, I am not trying to overgeneralize the issue of race.  Just giving my two cents on the best approach for someone in Korver's position.

Another poor man who has been hypnotized into a feeling of societal obligation and personal introspection. 😥

Thanks, Kyle.

I see no self-pity with him...just a sense of direction...attempting to understand.

As we - over the last 11 or so years - seem to at times be backsliding on Race issues it is refreshing to see perspectives like this.

I think Cousy said something very similar to what Korver is saying here not to long ago.
