Is there any franchise more disappointing than Hornets?

I mean sure retaining Kemba Walker is a great idea, (which still isn't set in stone), but honestly they should've just bit the bullet, traded Walker, for like a late pick or maybe some salary relief and tank for top 5 pick...

They are pretty much out of playoff contention, and just wasted another season of Walker..

So not only did they waste another year of Walker, refused to tank, and now have depreciating assets, plus paying luxury tax for a terrible team.

Their front office is still horrendous, the rumored Frank Kaminsky trade deal that fell through still amazes me. I think fans in New York would say the Knicks have been the most disappointing team in the league ever since Ewing left.

I think there is a very strong argument that the Celtics have been the most disappointing team in the league this year.

Not sure I can disagree with either of the above.

Even when they tank, they make poor draft decisions, and talk about FA signings. Kemba took about 6 years to develop and now he is probably leaving.

Hornets fans have nothing to be excited about next year. Maybe Miles Bridges, I thinks he will be a nice player in this league.

The Batum contract is a disaster
Zeller did not pan out at number 4 (though it was a bad draft could have got adams, giannis, mccollum)
MKG did not pan out at number 2 (other top ten picks, Drummond, Lillard, Beal)

They drafted Tobias Harris and traded him, and of course the Kaminsky pick. That is a decade of difference right there.

Miles and Malik Monk seem like two nice young pieces, but could've have had a lot more.

Our Celtics definitely win the most disappointing team of the 18-19 season award.

All kinds of talent, albeit lacking a player in the top-most tier of NBA stars, yet they've played like a .500 team for the majority of the season, except for a couple good stretches in October and January.



It's hard to call the Hornets disappointing because the season has gone more or less how I think most reasonable people would have expected it to go.

A better word for the Hornets is boring.  They've been a boring team for years.  The people running that team are either lacking in imagination / courage to take risks or the ownership constrains from them making bold decisions.

The Hornets really screwed up by not committing to winning or tanking. Its one thing to retain your picks and push for the playoffs when your developing a young core but the Hornets have an aging over priced core and a mix of nice fridge pieces. If the Goal is to win now and keep Kemba they 100% needed to trade for M Gasol. Shams reported they had a Gasol for MKG, Biyombo and their 2019 pick in place but it fell apart over pick protections. If the hang up was any short of a #1 over all protected then that's ridiculous.  Adding Gasol would have given them the talent and momentum to really push for the playoffs. Instead they likely loose Kemba and gain a player at pick #11 who likely projects as a role player.

Knicks do not have the best luck in the draft. Even being the worst team in the league they are only tied with two other teams for best odds to land Zion and there is an 86% chance they will not. Their most likely landing spot is 3rd or 4th.

Ever since they became the Charlotte Hornets, they have made boneheaded decisions especially ones regarding big men. They have a huge infatuation with undersized, athletic big men that could block and alter shots, but couldn't do anything else.

Well that is true, but at least they are in good position to land a top 4 pick, something CHA should've done either from the jump.

You can certainly point to the 2012 lottery/draft as a seminal moment for them. 

Coming off a 7-59 record with the best odds of landing Anthony Davis & they land #2. 

Choose Kidd-Gilcrest over Beal.  Lillard went 6th in that draft.  Drummond went 9th. 

Things certainly could've gone a much different way for that franchise.

What really killed the Hornets is that they were so bad for several years in a row there, and all they got out of it was Kemba Walker and a bunch of mediocre role players.  Kemba is a lot of fun and he's been the best player in the history of that franchise (not counting the other franchise that was named the Hornets).  But they were bottom of the league, had several very high draft picks, and came away with a single borderline All-Star.

Kind of weird to call him a borderline all-star when he has made it three years in a row and was a starter this year? What does he have to do to just be an all-star?
