  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Huh ? I have to think, deep down, that Horford did not care for Irving's negative effects on the team, whether on-court playing style or off-court drama. Horford has always been a total team oriented player, college and pros. And, btw, we did not get to 50 wins this season, so I don't see some big drop off. More likely an improvement.

Add a vet PLAYMAKER point guard, a knock-down shooter and an athletic big and go from there. I fully believe that our Big 3 Wings (the two J's plus Hayward) will flourish within a ball-movement, team-oriented offense. We need to get bigger and more athletic inside, so adding there and hopefully having Williams develop will strengthen our defense and rebounding. I would be very excited to see this group have a chance to gel as a unit - you would see some beautiful basketball.

Horford came here because he knew Danny was doing everything he could to build a contender and he wanted to win a championship. While Kyrie may not be everything he is looking for in the personality of a star player, he has to realize that the ceiling of this team is certainly higher with Kyrie than without. Any player like Rubio or Beverly could be signed with or without Kyrie here. Kyrie's salary cannot be replicated, never mind his play.

Getting to 50 wins isn't the goal, it's competing for a championship. I like our young players, but I am not sure why people think our young players are so much more amazing than other teams' young players. Enough so, that those teams don't make the playoffs, but ours will lead us to a ring. Acquiring top-end talent is really the only guarantee to do that and so many people want us to ditch our best player without getting a replacement.

Yes, you are correct. You need a couple of superstars to win a title. However, from where I sit, Irving proved he is not the superstar to help this particular team win a title. All those East teams that have improved have had players become unexpectantly much better this season. They also have superstars who are much more team-centered than Irving is. We have 3 All Star level players coming into their primes (J, J and Hayward) plus a strong supporting cast. Move on and keep building.

You literally named two players who may never become All-Stars and another who likely won't be an All-Star again (but still a very good player). I would love to be wrong about this, but look around the NBA, there are so many good young players. Other than the mirage of a post-season in 2018, what makes you think the Jays are destined for greatness - is it just because they play for Boston?

Irving just turned 27 y/o. While I agree he is probably not 'best player on a championship team' material, he is certainly an All-Star and you don't let young perennial All-Stars walk for nothing...unless of course you are from Boston.

I think,he'll live.
And the next steps by Celtics will be very important.
If they'll get AD,it would be nice, but how the will build around him?
I think in this trade Pelicans can win...

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Let Irving do what he wants. I think Rozier can play as good as Lowry. We can come out of the east if we get growth from both Brown and Tatum. Brown needs to Learn the feel of the Game and Tatum needs to trust his game. Gordon needs to believe in game. Smart is going to grow more as well. Danny will trade some picks and get us what we need for a center. Semi and Yabu i believe will be a good bench. Williams may grow over the summer.  I for one will enjoy to see us grow a team. KG wanted to come to Boston. Kyrie never seem like he did. But will he leave 50 mil on the table is the big question. He is not a endorsement ringer. We shall see.

Not sure if you're grossly overrating Rozier or grossly underrating a 5 time All-Star

I Grossly underrate Kyle Lowery as well. If Kawhi leaves it will come to light.

I know people are going to make fun of Hayward for this pic, but when your wife is that hot and she wants you to get on the pony to take a pic.

You get on the G.D. Pony and take the G.D. pic! :P

As we saw this year, it's not a good assumption that players get better every year. Sometimes they regress. Player growth can't always be counted on.

That is a major mistake that many on this blog, me included, fell into when we set our expectations for last year.

Compare the Bruins Zedana Chara coming out to sit with and encourage his teammates during 3d period of game 4 during Finals vs St. Louis, all with a freshly broken jaw........with Kyrie Irving not even showing up at the Garden for the 2018 East Finals Game 7 vs Cleveland - and why ? What was it, he couldn't fly because he chose to have a surgery done that could have waited or was that because he had a an IV port in his arm that embarrassed him ??

We will never know but some of the games when Irving did not play Tatum, Brown and Rozier played great. It was a hard thing to gauge with both of them back. We will always have the Milwaukee game 1.

He was an all-star this year, his fifth season in a row.

Oh cmon it’s the east. Y’all know Lowery is not good like that.
