it is apsurd to even think about letting someone like him go now that he is here. no one can tell the future, maybe he will lead us to a chip, maybe he will blow his knees up, D-Rose style. But a generational talent, at the age of 26 doesn't come very often.

If 30% of fans want him to walk, then the Celtics might have the dumbest fanbase in the league.

This is a tedious and arrogant attitude to express on a blog, which is a place to discuss opinions. It is especially off putting for a moderator.

It should be enough to argue your position without declaring anyone who disagrees with you to be dumb.

Whether Kyrie is ultimately good for the Celtics franchise on net has yet to be seen, and the evidence so far is clearly mixed. There is a perfectly rational argument for letting him go, if you think he lacks the emotional makeup to handle his role in an organization that is in championship or bust mode. It is a subjective judgement. Neither side where you might land on this is dumb.

Just because I'm a moderator doesn't mean I have to play neutral & nice and not offer an opinion. You've certainly been on this board long enough to know that.

I have opined on this topic several times over the past few months and my stance on this team being better off with Kyrie on it going forward rather going to rebuild land or putting everything in the kids' hands has been made several times.  I have yet to hear a compelling argument of how this team is better off contending without Kyrie being on the roster and I feel the people on here trying to run him out of town haven't given a total ton of consideration to what this team's outlook as a legit contender looks like if he's not on the roster next year.  Kyrie has his faults but this organization's fortunes are better going forward if he remains on the team.

Is that what you did? Because I thought you said the fans that disagreed with you about Kyrie were dumb.

And I think it doesn't reflect well on you, so I said so.

I said if 30% of the fanbase want him to walk, then they might have the dumbest fanbase in the league.   That's an opinion shared on a basketball message board.  If you're taken aback by it, so be it.  I don't know what else to say.

If you're turned off by an opinion of mine, you're certainly not the first & you won't be the last.  If you think it's unbecoming of a moderator to share it; that's up to you.  We have plenty of strong opinionated moderators on here who aren't afraid to take a stance not always popular.  It is what it is.

Yes, it's a place to discuss opinions.  Even dumb ones.  Our rules require respect, but not to the point where somebody can't make a generalized critique of what they see as underwhelming arguments.

If Dons says, "If 30% of Warriors fans want to run Durant out of town, they've got the dumbest fan base in the league", nobody bats an eye.  If he says, "If 30% of Celtics fans think Larry Bird was overrated because he's white, we've got the dumbest fan base in the league", nobody challenges that.

What about "If Team X's fans want to let an All-Star starter walk for no compensation, they're fools for not appreciating what he brings"?

If that stuff deeply bothers you, it might be time to reassess the thickness of your skin.

Tbf, we Celticsstrong posters and hecklers are a vast minority of Celtics fans, but I 100% agree with your points. It's easier to fix something that's broken than it is to completely start over hoping it turns out better.

"It" - the Celtics team - wasn't broken before this season's problems. A team of individuals can be resilient and relationships can be repaired, but at some point, relationships can be broken beyond repair and there is no fixing them.

And I have been reprimanded by a moderator for saying much, much less than calling someone's opinion "dumb".

There's a part of me that wants to see Danny let Kyrie walk, thus also losing out on the opportunity for AD, just so we all can see next season how a team led by Horford/Hayward/Tatum/Brown/Smart will get nowhere near the NBA Finals.
Lol. It'd be quite a wake up call I think

Isn't that the same mentality that you two loudly criticize when others express their prediction that Irving will ultimately lead this team to failure ?

Officially my favorite internet comment of the day comes from Reddit user /u/blackmanwdaplan who says, "I also think it's ironic that he stated that he plans to re-sign if we'd have him and fans are turning on him."

Which is an embarrassing reflection of a part of the Boston fandom, IMO.

Or a positive reflection of the basketball knowledge possessed by the Boston fandom who can see a square peg when it runs up and down the Parquet right in front of their eyes and then stirs up drama in the locker room after the game.
