It was pretty clear the focus isn’t on this season when Danny made no significant moves at the break. Other contenders dumped assets to lose to the Warriors. It’s whatever to me at this point because things are going to look a lot different with this team come this summer. Let the Raptors dump their assets and after Kawhi leaves for LA it’ll all be short lived.
It’s too bad the kids couldn’t play nice together but that’s what happens when guys are in contract years, they know they aren’t part of the teams future plans and they’re in it for themselves and their families.
All that being said this is obviously a low point but it’s because attitudes are down and the interest isn’t there for these guys right now. Realistically these games are meaningless compared to playoff games and I’m sure we’ll see a better Celtics team then.
I guess my question would be, why is it always about "next season" with the Celtics?
Why can't we live in the moment and focus on this season? What if we don't get Davis and Kyrie walks? Is it going to be about the 2020-21 season 2 games into next season?
At what point does Danny get the criticism he deserves?
Because from where I'm sitting, Ainge hasn't won jack since 2008. And I am talking about titles, not trades, or draft picks, or yada yada.
Their effort level and body language looks like they’ve given up so it’s a little hard to get behind them right now. So like I was saying, either they’ll be a different team come playoffs or it’s on to next season. That’s their doing.
I understand. I guess where I'm coming from is if Ainge is doing his job, he should've seen this coming and addressed it at the trade deadline. Thus, it shows the players (at least the ones you didn't trade) and your fans that you're invested in this team, this season.
I like that approach more so than just going after one player this summer thinking that's going to magically turn everything around.
Not that Davis isn't talented, but cross that bridge when you get to it. Also, Ainge should've played his cards closer to his chest. Now, everyone knows he wants Davis, even his own players and it may have caused quite the s**storm. See what's happening in LA.
The way I look at this is the big picture and this is my opinion. (obviously)
Danny trades KG, Pierce, Terry, etc. to the Nets to reload, get draft picks, and acquire value to then flip for superstars and do exactly what he did in '08. The last few drafts Danny has drafted for what he thought was the best player available at his picks, and not necessarily for needed positions. He doesn't care about that at that stage as hes stockpiling value to turn into a young elite team that has a solid timeline to compete for championships for 5-10 years. Until the timing is right to create said elite team, our teams in between can look like they're in limbo; incomplete even. He's apparently had eyes for Davis for years as a foundation to this elite team, as documented. He also sees Kyrie as this and who knows who else will end up being a part of it. The point is, we're at the point where we're about to use this collected value to acquire Davis and Ainge isn't going to burn assets to bring in some vets half way through this 1 particular season to give a minor boost to this team. The 5 year plan is coming to fruition and he's not going to jeopardize that by bringing in Nikola Mirotics and Marc Gasols leaving him short come this summer to execute the rest of his plan. That's part of crossing that bridge when it comes, having the assets to cross it.
I don't think Danny could have seen this coming. LeBron and his cronies saw that we couldn't deal for Davis at the deadline like they could so they played a cheap game. They threw out lies and bully tactics to force the situation in an effort to get Davis to LA. This had a terrible effect on both locker rooms and there wasn't much else Danny could've done besides stay political, and continue with his plan. Before this happened, I'm sure he thought he'd just be able to make offers this summer or next years deadline like a normal situation. LeBron and Rich Paul made it ugly and we're all suffering the consequences. There was no hiding anything for anybody as the social media ****storm was in full effect.
I don't think anyone could have seen the Davis debacle coming and we're doing what we can with it. Guys' attitudes are **** right now; its not a perfect world and these are things GMs have to deal with. That's why it's a difficult job and I think Danny does a pretty good job with what he's dealt.
