per Woj and some others. Pretty good for Miami to get out from his deal, they were like the Dumars Pistons with throwing around too many long-term mid-$ deals.

EDIT: It's for Ryan Anderson, who's also owed a year. Wonder what the equalizer is. Just Miami cutting a bit of salary?

Yup and no picks. So a pure salary dump by Miami to cut tax this year and likely next. Makes sense for them.

I would think the Heat have multiple moves lined up as this trade makes little sense by itself.  Anderson adds 1.2 million in salary this year putting them like 7.4 million over the tax, they can no longer just dump Ellington to get under the tax.  Anderson probably is going to be stretched or bought out at some point.  The trade saves Miami I think around 4 million in salary next year as Anderson took a deal to be traded to Phoenix.

He is guaranteed 15.6 million and will receive his full salary if not waved by July 10th.

Believe it's guaranteed and Miami will stretch.

Wild that Tyler Johnson's making nearly $20 mill this season but also the Heat are still paying Chris Bosh $26

Should we make one thread for all trade deadline updates? Lot's of action so far before the Thursday deadline this year! I expect that tomorrow will explode.

Ellington had the right to refuse any trade so I would think Phoenix is going to buy him out allowing him to sign wherever he wants.

Trading McGruder's 1.5 million salary now gets the Heat under the tax.  Could the C's be involved with him as rumored??

I would love me some Wayne Ellington as a deep bench shooter. Don't think it works for us though.

I'm guessing McGruder's salary is fully guaranteed at this point in the season. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Cs could trade Byrd and a 2nd round pick for McGruder. Because Byrd has an extra year on his contract, Miami could waive and stretch Byrd's 1.4 million dollar salary over 5 years, getting them under the luxury tax.

Maybe.  They might be short players on their roster??  I am not up on all the rules and they already traded 2 for 1 to Phoenix it sounds like.  If they now trade McGruder without a salaried player coming back I believe they would be down to 12.
